17:15 I'm not korean myself, but just like the US is very diverse, so is korea, starting with the fact that the majority of BTS fans are not kpop fans, ARMY is def enjoying this. This album was actually made with what we call "Team RM", which consists of many members of the group Balming Tiger which is also not kpop, just korean music. Not all korean music is "kpop", just like not all black music is hiphop. Korea has a very cool scene of music outside of kpop, from ballad, indie and rock singers and groups. RM started as an underground rapper before joining BTS, he was winning rap battles at 13/14 yo agaisnt college age rappers. I wish the hiphop community in the US would be more open to the idea that they might like and even resonate with what a korean rapper has to offer in his music. He has so much so say abt what it means to just be human and how ppl perceive you vs how you see yourself. RM, with this album, has 225 songs copyrights to his name, 168 of which are BTS songs. He is credited for 21 songs that have hit the Billboard Hot 100, 4 of which hit #1 Do you realize how INSANE that is for a korean artist? Someone not backed by the american music industry. Someone who gets very little to no radio play on all of these songs to help on charts like other american artists. All done through real sales and streaming numbers. RM is currently serving in the military and we hope we can help RM grow more his hiphop audience in the US, despite him not being here. Pls share his music with other ppl you know will be into it. Help break some of the prejudice he suffers for not being american. Borahae 💜

Just to give a little more context about the word play on Domodachi. One way to read it, is he is combining Domo "Thanks" and Tomodachi "friend", to "Thanks Friend". However, there is another layer. The Japanese for "TO" is と and for "DO" is ど. The only difference being the " added. So, it's not just Thanks Friend, but you can also see it saying "Friend" in quotes, like, fake friends. Just interesting context! Loved the video, thank you so much for putting it out. Love seeing people realize what an absolute artist RM is. They worked with Coolio and Warren G. -Anderson Paak is a good friend to the group and has worked with them before and is also featured on RM's "Still LIfe" from his Indigo album. -Interesting fact: notice the cut above RM's eye? While filming "come back to me" mv he stood up and wacked his face on the camera, (he is kinda clumsy from time to time!). Had to get 5 stitches, then came back and finished filming the same day like nothing happened. I'm glad you liked Joonie! He is a ligit wonderful human being and a true artist. 16:45 I don’t think they will, but Namjoon’s intentions were never to stay in Korea. He’s not looking for chart recognition, he’s always spoken about how he wants his music to stay with a person throughout their life rather than the top of their playlist for a year. Korean fans don’t really understand hip hop in general which is why Namjoon caters to an international fans base, but at the same time doesn’t forget his Korean roots. A lot of his influence comes from the west, but he’s Korean, so at its core his music will always be parallel to Korean culture. In his previous project, he uses Korean artists to show his deep appreciation for his culture and in this album, he drew from his inspiration and appeal to hip hop in the US. He’s an interesting person when it comes to what inspires him. Sometimes it’s a painting or a word someone says. This is my favorite project of him because it takes the influence and creation of African Americans and combines it with his own views and experiences as a Korean man. He always gives credit where it’s due, to his own people and to other cultures.

Loved this! It's always so fun to see people realise how amazing BTS members are. That part about RM breaking barriers for rappers got me thinking about how crazy it is just HOW MANY barriers he broke in this album. Being trapped in a box of being "korean", and then of "kpop", and then of "rapper", and then of "fangirls love him, so he's not a cool thing to be interested in". There's so much to overcome just to get his music listened to. Thanks for the great video!

Eminem said it right: "F* the Grammys". The agency has been rude to not give Grammys by the truckload to BTS during group or during their solo period. They used BTS for viewership. F* the Grammys!

He spoke some facts regarding how the album will be received due it being from a Korean. Loved that he fell for it despite not understanding the words

The song's narrative structure suggests a journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Phrases like 'You don't have to be the anything you see' and 'Trying not to be that something in this sea' reflect a struggle against societal expectations or external pressures. RM seems to advocate for authenticity and finding one's true self amidst the chaos of life.

Really entertaining! I have said since RPWP came out that it’s doing RM a disservice to label this album as “kpop”. And yes, it was recognized on the hip hop billboard chart, but this album should have been distributed/advertised as hip hop. Also I super enjoyed the discussion about all the influences you can hear… RM has shared many of his influences with army over the years and I know he would like you all talking about them. And appreciated Varnell’s comments about RM’s talent and artistry and why he won’t get recognized by the recording academy… he knows what’s up. And a collab would be so dope.

As long as the album it done by a "Kpop" artists basically a Korean... Its going to be labeled kpop. It's not about advertised. Remember it was no1 on rap albums. Its just how it is.
@roguechevelle6 ай бұрын
@@artist-scopes8357 It's to do with the streaming services like Spotify and how they label anything from a Korean as Kpop. Big Hit themselves described it as alternative genre on the release notice, genius website listed the genre as alternative rock & on the day the album dropped Google (I have screen shots) labeled it as alternative rock but within a few days Google then changed it to "kpop, alternative rock". I believe it was described as alternative because the instrumentations were a bit more eclectic but in regards to the solo albums especially, the company release notice descriptions for most did not refer to their works as "kpop", that's the streaming services' doing. Billboard has been working against the guys too when Agust D D-Day album got no.1 for Billboards Top Rap Album (it made it on a few other BB rap charts) they put out an article shortly after all about it but when it came to award season BB listed his as a "kpop tour", there is absolutely nothing kpop about the D-Day tour, it was a rap tour. They really do not like BTS or it's members competing with western artists and now it was just announced the Grammy's is trying to make an Asian Grammy's just like they did with Latin Grammy's to keep Asians out of the main categories.

PLEASE BRING HIM BACK AND SHOW THE OTHER ALBUNSSSS And I 100% agree with that take on "this is the album he was trying to make ever since", because RPWP screams his musicality and to think that he gave it to us, millions of his fans, who would (probably) never listen to this type of music it's crazy. He introduced a new world to so many people (as he's been always doing) and I couldn't be more proud of him. BTS never disappoints, never.

Bring back our boi Varnell! He's hilarious and insightful plus your friendship has great on-screen chemistry. This was a fun time. Hiphop is such a diverse entity that can be a great vehicle for true artists to work with and RM is a great example of that. If you hear the way he talks about music, there's so much reverence and respect he shows. This isn't just a job to him. My favourite thing about his music is the way you can chart his personal and professional growth from his first mixtape ('RM") all the way to his second album ('Right Place Wrong Person'). He was just a teenager when he started music and now he's hit his 30s and we can hear the fruits of his labour. The rapline is what got me into BTS and even though I love what all of them bring to the proverbial table, RM is my bias for a laundry list of reasons. I hope Varnell is able to come back again and react to Indigo. And if he wants/has the time, I'd be curious to see what he thinks of the 'Indigo Magazine Film' that RM created and posted on KZbin. He walks us through each track along with all of the people who collaborated with him on the album including the featured artists and some of the producers. If you're a music lover, you might really enjoy it (if you haven't seen it yet). Hearing the backstory and thought processes behind the making of the album adds a little something extra to the work.
