Make sure you do the Axiel edition of Redesign then. It's a much better version of the game.

You may have not liked the classic sonic games that much, but I assure you that this game will make you love the classics as much as the 3D games. It's that good. You should give your opinion on it.

The border is not a Game Boy Player border. I made it myself using sprites ripped from the game. It matches the one I used in the review. The gameplay footage itself was recorded on my DS Capture Card.

I've never understood the hatred most people have towards the GBA versions of the DKC trilogy; sure some of the graphics and music are altered to suit the different hardware, but I feel that players solely shun the handheld versions just because of the graphical and auditory differences. In fact I actually enjoy some of the GBA songs over the SNES songs such as Aquatic Ambience, Bonus Stage Boogie, Misty Menace, Forest Frenzy and Life In The Mines. From my experiences, I really enjoyed this game, even if I didn't go out of my way to 101% it, and I can't wait to play DKC2 & DKC3 on the GBA.

TDPNeji The GBA games fixes some of the dated game design from the older SNES versions, surprisingly has LESS screen crunch, added content, etc.

Basically the reason why people hated the DKC versions of gba (including me), is because of the expectations that the game itself promised, the GBA was supposed to be a 32-bit portable console, with more power than the snes itself Therefore, being an apparently superior system, people expected a version that was at least graphically the same with respect to the original, especially considering that other ports of SNES had already been made in GBA that were graphically and sonically identical to their original versions (mario world, zelda: a link to the past, snes mario all stars games) DKC showed that GBA did not outperform or even equaled the SNES in all aspects, such as color saturation and sound quality and considering that the hook that made DKC such a hit was its pre-rendered graphics and color palette that gave it a far superior look to any snes game back then that couldn't make Seeing an identical port was intolerable. although I also dare to think that it was not only the limitations of the GBA, nor were the ports made with due care since Rare was already owned by Microsoft when the ports were made. and Rare's communication with Nintendo was limited and mediated by THQ.

I like your take on development and the story of stuff you usually do, your knowledgeable and have good delivery. I played the fuck out of this port back when I was a teen and I really enjoyed it. All ports or versions of this game seem to push the hardware they're on to the max. From the SNES to the GB to the GBC to the GBA port... They're all excellent and really defy what they're supposed to be able to do. I loved how this was one of the only GBA games to not have their soundtrack butchered in quality. I also liked how just like Super Mario Deluxe for GBC they added lots of collectathon achievements for this port. For some reason I loved that and still do.

Hmm I've wanted to try the gameboy interface homebrew software. Supposed to minimize the input lag and allow 240p resolution. The only rub after that is getting my capture card to pick up 240p and not have it look like ass.

There's a homebrew apparently for the GameCube that let's you get better picture quality out of gba games. Forget what it's called but you need an action replay to use it

I will always prefer the SNES version, but this is by no means a butchered version of the game, and it's a great way to experience it. It really comes down to whether you prefer console or handheld gaming. Anyways, great job on the first episode! Looking forward to future episodes.

Hey Exo, have you ever considered getting a GBA everdrive and a 32 gigabyte sd card for it to store many roms on it? Using a certain program (I think it is called Goomba) it should be possible to run all GameBoy and GBC games on a Nintendo DS, so you would be able to play and record any handheld nintendo game prior to the 3ds on you recording ds.

I agree about how dreadful the native gameboy player is. It began to piss me off so much that I started to look into alternatives and I found one. You should look into something called Game Boy Interface. It's a custom homebrew that uses the GBP hardware and allows you to use a much better, more accurate to the original handheld. If you Google it you should be able to find it pretty fast, but, here's a link to it regardless: retrorgb.com/gameboyinterface.html. I recommend it for any more GBA stuff you do in the future since it'll probably make your life a lot easier. Anyway, keep up the good work, I really enjoyed the lets play. If you want a suggestion from me, please don't read the text out loud, that stuff drives me wild, but, the rest of it was great!

ExoParadigmGamer Ah, since I think I heard somewhere that the GB player had borders like the Super Game Boy did. I also think you should see if there is any Composite to HDMI mod for Component. BTW you can try fooling around with the brightness of the image and darken it to try and make it look slightly closer to the SNES original

It's not entirely unwarranted. I mean, I feel the same way about Crash Bandicoot. Diff'rent Strokes?

To that criticism, I would say 2 things: 1. The gameplay itself is still challenging and therefore stimulating. It's still good in a vacuum even if it doesn't put any new twists on anything. 2. You shouldn't judge a whole game by just 1 aspect but as a whole. The (1st 2) DKC games have so much else going for them that makes them as a whole package great, and fills in any gaps from the gameplay not being revolutionary. The music, graphics, and world building are fantastic, and it's still challenging level design with great controls.

I recorded the footage in the raw RGB, which is converted to YUV when encoded in MP4 format. I didn't change them in editing, so this is as accurate a representation of the original colors as KZbin can provide.
