I bought a Yeti years ago. Modded it, but it still never lived up to my expectations. Picked up a Ryft two weeks ago, then cobbled together a sway bar from a Wraith sway bar kit. It's everything I thought the Yeti would be. It's a blast, love it.

Nursing a rock bouncer is kinda incongruous. And if everytime you go out, you are worried about those axles, well, it beats its purpose. We had this same exact conversation some months ago, about brands "skipping" some R&D and present flawed products. Lasernut (or turd) came to mind as soon as the RYFT reviews began, and people started popping axles on their first outings. User error or product underdevelopement is of course debatable. But when a new product promises to do one thing and does not meet the expectations, or, as in this case, or Lasernut for that matter, you have to be careful about not break stuff...or the only way to get it to perform as it should is going the aftermarket road, trial and error with different combinations of electronics, hardware, countless hours researching forums, experimenting new ideas, to correct inherent problems to a specific product, makes me wonder why this or that was not properly engineered from sketch one. We can all argue that tinkering, modding, experiment is what RC is all about, and yes it is. But improving, upgrading is one thing...correcting is another. Don't take me for a hater, or a naysayer. Flawed products just make me feel ripped of. Granted RYFT is not a failure, far from it...but when I watch guys like you, who know so much about what RC is all about, having to tone down, be careful and speak about "must have" improvements (not upgrades)...that kind of tells you something, doesn't it? Room for improvement is not what a new product should be labeled as.
@ExocagedRC3 жыл бұрын
The Ryft has quite a few must have improvements that’s for sure. If they would have shipped with better axle housings and a good rear Swaybar it would have been a much better launch. The diff gear material is also barely adequate, that’s why those are getting messed up. Yeah the axles are the LAST place to skimp on quality yet they do that over and over again.
@koenoder43233 жыл бұрын
If I'm going to be paying $500 for an RTR, and know that I'll need to throw another 300 into it just for it not to break, It's not very appealing. At least the bomber can't go fast enough in RTR form to break XD

For me its even worse because so many of these aftermarket companies don't even have a proper website, ebay, amazon store and aren't carried by major hobbyshops. So your stuck scouring a facebook page hoping to see a new batch of the part you need get posted.

I have been building my own RCs for a while. The AX10 axles made it easy. I started with AX10, but quickly found solid axles break too easily. Since then I've been using aftermarket metal housings. I've had one for the last 12 years and those axles are still going strong. It's tougher on the wheels and axle stubs since they have to deal with more unsprung weight. Last car I built, I just bought some cheap fully assembled metal axles off ebay. I replaced the front diff with an axial open diff (wheely king diff should fit too since they were interchangeable with axials). That's been running quite nicely. I'd seriously expect cheap metal to fare worse than axial plastic on impact, but I've yet to have problems. I don't think I'll get back into buying RCs like this unless it's a roller or heavily discounted. I'd love to see RPM make axle housings, since their nylon can bend, and it's light.

Although BIG for most 1/10 crawling competition gates I made a VERY capable and entertaining crawler out of my Bomber for approximately $150. A $25 Holmes Hobbies 550 Crawlmaster Sport 13T motor. Metal steering links for steering precision, 500oz/in steering servo, and stainless steel skid-plates to protect the axle/pumpkins. Speed cost money(it also breaks shit). Turn the Ryft into a crawler and you won't need $160+ Vitavon CNC machined aluminum axles OR anti-sway bars. Your motor choices could also be far more budget-friendly.

To crawl the ryft it will need the low gear set to make the trans a 2speed. It’s simply geared too high to crawl IMO.

I put the cheap 140-dollar eBay aluminum portal axels on my Axiel Ryft. It has no more torque twist and they don't break. You need to put a higher kV motor or a bigger pinion to get the top speed back. They have non-portal aluminum axels as well which won't affect the top speed. It is now a beast with the new axels. I love the bomber too. Both are fun.

@@paulclancy2404 the Motors are incredible for response and speed, it's the Motor control/ESC I found sub-par, jittery and unpredictable, had a lot of drop out and dead time when ESC failed to respond to input. I almost launched it off and embankment and into a stream trying to get it to reverse, no go, no go, no go, launch backwards.

Can you pull out the Xmaxx again? Try doing the XLX2 with the 1717 ;)

I’ve got that motor in the Mojave. I kinda like it better in there.

Torque twist is so bad in that Ryft that it ddidbt even have all 4 tires on the ground on those harder climbs

I like how you can see the ryft’s wheels.

My friend does semi- pro r/c bouncing and the Ryft seems to not perform well as a bouncer and isnt run very much by competitors. Mostly bomber and wraiths converted to bouncer. They arent in to the ryft Also comparison isn't valid unless both are stock or equally customized. And of course if you aren't on rocks
