Great video always strap in if you're elevated even when taking down your stands. I fell to certain death and survived I remember crawling to my truck watching the deer pass by me in the woods alone. The full cycle of life almost came to me. However I persevered 9 months after my fall I crawled back into the woods harvested a 9-point buck with my crossbow from the ground. He was no giant but definitely my greatest kill ever never give people. It's been 5 years since the fall this year with my sons in camp I climbed back up in the tree and made a bow kill first one since the fall that was my second greatest kill ever. It's not about the horns it's about harvesting the animals that allow you to feed your family and respecting nature. Thanks for the tips i am grinding in December hoping for some magic. I mainly hunt from the ground using ambush spots and natural cover its very lethal. Sometimes ya get busted but the close encounters on the ground is awesome and intense when the deer are feet away.

My second time listening to this podcast. I don't think there was a ton of unique tactics that come out of it, but I really enjoyed the conversation. I always like Jake's demeanor and Heath seems like a smart guy who has his process nailed. Not a ton here to apply on public land, at least to the same scale, but certainly some good things to keep in mind. One thing I can heavily endorse, especially on public, that Heath mentions - having multiple set-ups with you and hanging your morning sets the night before! I do this ALL THE TIME on public and it gives me so much more confidence in my hunts. Better tree and therefore shot selection, less intrusive/likely to spook deer - the benefits are huge. My one suggestion - INVEST IN A THICK PYTHON LOCK! Get a good thick python lock to lock in your platform and top stick to the tree to ensure it doesn't get stolen. Then also take down your last two climbing sticks whenever you leave your stand that morning/evening. Keeps thieves off of your stuff and allows you to access/leave your locations with as limited intrusion as possible. Might not matter much early season, but a HUGE help late season once you narrowed down one or two bucks you are after in just one or two locations 🍻

Ahahahaha yep. He hunts 25-35 feet high and thinks it’s the scentlok that keeps him undetected. Knows little to nothing about how the trajectory of the scent works at that height. Deer within 20-30 yards of him simply cannot smell him at that height. What a joker !!!!!! I’m surprised noone else is noticing that 🤷‍♂️

@ronnyg5877 average dogs have 100 million scent receptors in their nose vs a deer having 300 million. If he thinks I'm going to believe that a trained dog can smell a bag of coke in my arse from the other side of the airport but a deer who lives by his nose can't smell me in a tree alone in the environment he's been in his whole life then he's more full of himself than I thought

Lol that’s one way of looking at it but the real reason is the height that he climbs. He averages 35 feet up. His scent blows over the deer below him. The only deer that smell him are roughly 75-150 yards out. That’s how the scent cone works. And yes, he is extremely full of himself and very arrogant and cocky.

I'm glad he brought up the 30 yard rule, I argue with people all the time over the ethics of long shots and here in PA 40 yards is my limit usually, between all the trees and bushes and a pressured deers duck/jump reaction time, there's too much that can go wrong at 50 and 60 yards, I grew up elk hunting in Colorado and have killed plenty of animals at 60+yards in the mountains, but never have got a successful shot over 40 yards on a whitetail

The coldest day I have ever had bow hunting late season-10 in ND Coldest day of ice fishing after Christmas-36. My son didn’t even want to get out of the truck but once setup we had one of the best crappy days on ice ever.

Late season in ND your either in them or bust. Late season snow amounts and weekly blizzard conditions can move deer miles from your setups to end your big buck season some years unexpectedly 😢

All our surrounding crop fields with access got tilled this year so our late season has been ROUGH. Drive half mile down the road and they’re all in the neighbors untilled corn field.

Late season deer move at the warmest part of the day but I hunt extremely harsh conditions deep snow and super cold 🥶 temperatures

10 to 12 ft is all you need to hide small movement. I used to think I had to get way up and wear camo. I found I don’t need either.
