Nothing like the peace and serenity of the sound of a waterfall while out in the desert. Thanks for the great gear reviews and of course, Cuervo's great guitar music.

You can also by a bag of it from Home Depot and it's called "Fatwood", it comes in a good size bag and cost about six bucks in small stick and whittle it down your self.

A way to start a good fire is something most people think is stupid, but I go to a fireworks store and buy me a bundle of wooden sparklers. I put one in some kindling and light it and it starts everytime

I also find that carrying a small can of "Shoe Polish" works great instead of the pine clippings. And if you're trying to light a larger piece of wood, you can spread the shoe polish on the wood and light it. Works quite well. The polish tin is the same size as the Pine clippings in the video.

Hey James good stuff. Weather can surprise you, once drove from Midland Odessa to El Paso figured on buying gas somewhere in between. A storm a hundred miles away took out power. You could buy a cool Coke for cash but no one was pumping gas. Made El Paso on fumes . Stay prepared brother.

I carry a small can of sterno, scoop some out with a stick, light it, stick it in your campfire to get it started. It will burn for about half an hour, drying out the campfire wood..

Great vid, good details. I noticed through my research that overfilling this lighter causes it to leak through the wick into the cap so it is recommended to only fill it partially. In your use how long would you say it last on a proper fill? I intend to use it like you showed on the intro, as an ignition source and as a secondary light source and would like to know what the "burn" time on a recommended fill up might be, if you have tested that ?
@JunkyardFox4 жыл бұрын
honestly, i use this lighter at least once a day, and the fluid will last me longer than a month.

@@JunkyardFox Thanks for the reply, I picked one up the other day , seems like a well built item, took it out snow camping and used it for lighting my wood stove and it worked great even when freezing.

@@JunkyardFox got one of these as a gift for Xmas but I am having issues with mine. I can't get the flame to burn consistently, it flickers for about 20 secs then burns down to a small flame beneath the wind guard! I have overfilled on purpose to make sure the wick is covered etc. Pulled out all the cotton wadding and repacked, trimmed wick back after turning black and still have this issue. Are these meant to be used for short bursts or should my lighter burn for longer before fading out?

That Osha Trail looks pretty awesome. Oddly enough, I've never hiked it, despite having a place north of there near Capitán. Does the water run year-round, or does that turn into a dried up arroyo?
@JunkyardFox4 жыл бұрын
the filming did involve a bit of movie magic, the osha trail doesnt lead to this water source, thats located somewhere else entirely. it was just filmed this way to give the audience and idea of the plot without talking.

Do you carry a snake bite kit...??
@PJ-mj1hy5 жыл бұрын
You may not want to hear this, but "snakebite kits", such as the ones with suction cups or venom extractors, are basically useless. Many times, they'll actually make the problem worse. These kits are still being sold, despite being proven to be virtually useless. This site has some good info on the subject: www.snakebitefoundation.org/blog/2019/1/20/the-truth-about-commercial-snakebite-kits-and-venom-extractors
@FulcrumMW5 жыл бұрын
@@PJ-mj1hy ^Very true. The best and safest remedy for a snake bite, especially a venomous one; is to seek professional medical help absolutely asap. The anti-venom they have is crucial for treatment of venomous bites and "snake bite kits" will really just slow you down in getting that needed assistance.
