HMONG FARM-TO-TABLE DINNER
1. FAMILY FARM
ADDRESS: Wisconsin, USA
BOILED CHICKEN WITH HMONG HERBS: Boil the chickens. Mix in some Hmong herbs and then eat with rice.
FRESH POTBELLY PORK WITH SQUASH TIPS: In a massive pot, brown the chopped up pork meat. Drain the oil. Add water to cover the pork and allow it to continue cooking. Add salt and MSG. Boil for about ten minutes then add buttercup squash tips.
BRAISED GUINEA FOWL: Chop cilantro and green onions. Chop up the guinea fowl. In a big bowl, place chopped guinea fowl, add fresh cilantro and green onions, and add fresh ground pepper. Mix and braise.
BUTTERCUP SQUASH: Cut the buttercup squash. Make the pepper dipping sauce for the meat: mash fresh chili peppers and salt, add roasted garlic, add sugar, add charred green onion, add roasted cherry tomatoes, add fish sauce and add fresh cilantro.

As a Black person living in Wi, I have several Hmong friends, everything they are showing I can attest to. I tried cow heart, squid balls, raw beef in my Pho which I like. I've even tried pig brain, that wasn't my forte lol but I like seeing how the Asian community works together and get alot of their food naturally. There's a good size Hmong population in Minnesota. That pepper sauce is great, when they make me a pan of egg rolls, I eat them with that pepper sauce😍🔥. It's fantastic.

I worked in a Vietnamese kitchen for years and the raw beef Pho is really legit, I think the family I worked for had some Hmong roots along the way because some things I'm seeing in their culture in these videos is similar. But I love Pho, we were only closed one day a week and that was either a cleaning day for the restaurant but in Winter it was Pho prep day, cooking the bones and soaking the bean sprouts, Thai basil trimming, trimming the beef, and getting everything ready to be made for service on Monday. It was all done very much with love, time, trad. ingredients

True. I have never heard of the Hmong people. I had no idea that they don't have a country any more. Despite this, they still maintain their heritage and spirit! Amazing!

I screwed up at 19 and ended up in jail, and at one point my bunkmate was a 16 year old kid who i thought was chinese. After a couple of days he opened up and told me he was Hmong. I wasn't an idiot in school, i paid attention and was in the upper 10th percentile in my class but had never ever been told or taught about the Hmong people. He told me all about their plight and how they had no official land to call their home. Learned a lot from that kid, and he ended up getting sentenced to 20 years in prison at 16 for being an accessory to murder. I sometimes wonder if he's been released or if he ended up stuck in the system.

And were persecuted for it and The Americans really pretty much didn't help as much as they should have. So my dad told me. He fought with and trained Hmong villages

White guy here (meeka), married to a Wisconsin Hmong girl. They are an awesome people. I am constantly learning more about their culture all the time. My mother in law's chicken larb is one of my favorite foods in the world. I'm pretty sure I like more Hmong food than my wife. But she can eat egg rolls all the time. I get sick of those after awhile. Their hot pepper condiment with dried hot chilies, green onion, cilantro, and fish sauce is awesome!

From where Hmong people started and where we are now, I love to see this.❤️ All these dishes I loved as a kid and even as a kid. The first dish was very basic with just boiled chicken, vegetables, and eaten with Thai peppers and salt. Very basic but the most comfortable and wholesome dish I loved as a kid.❤️❤️❤️

I found that part incredibly interesting, that they set out food for their ancestors because "when their souls are hungry they want something to eat". It's such a simple thing, but so profound at the same time! As for the host, he's been living in Vietnam for years, so he's very familiar with asian cultures and cuisines, and he's always been such a charming guy. He shows respect, while also recording their culture (food, after all, is a huge part of what 'makes us us'), and pretty sure he's engaged or married to a vietnamese woman. So it's not too surprising that he understands humility, while also playing up his personality for the audience. I love this show, been binging for years.

Being from Fresno it is really nice seeing Hmong in other parts of the country. There is a book that explains the Hmong assistance in Laos. But, my best picture is of General Vang Pao dedicating the Hmong Vietnam memorial in Fresno. Many military leaders have had traditional funerals in Fresno, I'm just sad that many weren't honored as well during this recent time. We are losing them fast, time to renew the tradition.

This is the best way to do it! I have my potbelly pigs, guineas, chicken, turkey, and quail. Growing them all and harvesting them is the best gift. You know where it comes from and what they’ve eaten. So fresh

The worst part of the video is when you see all the yummy food, but you can't eat it because it's on a computer screen!!!! Sonny is awesome, his content is great, and he has a huge respect for asian cultures. It might be because he spent so much time in Vietnam. But he's really a great person and a lovely ambassador for people from around the world. Food is something that, no matter your race or religion, we can all agree upon. If it's yummy, put it in my tummy!

So many people have forgotten that the Hmong were not only translators, but took up weapons and fought alongside the Americans and South Vietnamese. That is why they are in America. They had a far more difficult time to adapt than the South Vietnamese which were urbanized and more worldly.

Beautiful episode. Husband is Laotian Hmong born in a Thailand refugee camp. He literally had no country (the exact words of USCIS). Spreading the awareness, flavors, and culture is the best we can do.

Loving your Midwest content! I'm from Wisconsin so I've grown up with many Hmong co-workers and classmates. However, I've always wanted to know more about their food traditions etc. beyond what I see from the outside. Thank you for that opportunity.
