Same as in Spanish "tiene un tornillo suelto" means that person is insane. Also, "potable water" is common sense and easy to understand.

Hello Kevin and Lisa! I have a confusion with pronounce and meaning thise two phrase: 'full of yourself' and 'fool of yourself'. Please if you don't mind to make the lesson about it. Thank you!
@lordnikon6809
@lordnikon6809 15 күн бұрын
Full of yourself" and "fool of yourself" are phrases that sound similar but have different meanings: "Full of yourself": This phrase typically means being excessively self-centered, arrogant, or conceited. It implies that someone has an inflated sense of their own importance or abilities. "Fool of yourself": This phrase suggests that someone has made a foolish or embarrassing mistake, often in front of others. It implies acting in a way that brings about ridicule or judgment from others due to foolish behavior or decisions. In summary, "full of yourself" relates to a person's attitude or demeanor, while "fool of yourself" pertains to specific actions or behavior resulting in embarrassment or ridicule. Examples: 1. "He's always bragging about his accomplishments and never listens to others' opinions; he's so full of himself." 2. "After attempting to impress everyone with his amateur magic tricks at the party, he realized he had made a fool of himself."

I don't understand this. How can a native speaker make this mistake. In my country we speak two languages. I didn't need to be explained the meaning of any expression because I immediately undertood it by the context, the situation when I was a child. It is just a matter of exposure. How is this even possible with a PHD.

I agree with that comment 100%, you're simply right, It can't be possible that a native speaker makes that kind of mistakes. I can understand that a native speaker is a human being too and can make mistakes but not that kind of mistakes.

It seems to me that she is not reading enough and is unaware of the dimension of teaching a language. I believe that if a person wants to become a teacher, she or he needs to accumulate a lot of knowledge of different subjects. In her case, it is pretty clear that she is not a well-read person.

For me, to say “plastic silverware” sounds just odd - is it plastic? Or is it silver? I only use the word if I’m referring to actual silver or metal cutlery. Even “cutlery” sounds somewhat formal to me or at least it implies a whole set of a chef’s arsenal of tools. For me utensils and flatware are the most normal terms.

Sorry, but your people don't know their own language. It's probably because you don't learn English at school from a linguistic point of view or you don't read a literature enough. There is something important missed in a school curriculum.

The girl who made these mistakes is Canadian, and the teacher correcting her is Ukranian. What are you saying? What do you mean by "your people"? Most native English speakers know their own language.
