Following your series on expanding Moog Sound Studio to Eurorack, which can be a daunting experience. I had to calibrate my M32s VCO to get an acceptable External CV 1V/Oct pitch tracking. Apparently, this is a known issue with M32. So, just wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who's planning on using an external CV sequencer. Manual discourages users from attempting VCO calibration, but my unit was way off and the procedure is quite straightforward. Thanks for your videos, very helpful.

Can I ask you about the volume knob? When outputting via the 1/4 jack into an interface or mixer I got a lot of volume and sometimes I hear some loud clicks with particular patching. Is it possible that is too much for the input of maybe the mix of the patches creates some click audible only when the volume is dimed and usually in lower octaves

When trying to tune my M32 with Plaits (or any other MI voice), I find I get better results using the Mother for fine tuning; their frequency pots are so silky smooth, and accurate. Mutable frequency pots are much harder to dial in perfectly. Just in my own experience.

Mutable is also quantized to semitones, isn't it?

I don't think it's quantized... But I'm reading now that there might be a hidden setting. Interesting. I'll have to do some experimenting. Thanks!

I have another question for you if you don't mind, and apologies if this is totally obvious. So from your videos i have discovered that you can take the lfo out, feed in back into the ext audio, turn the LFO rate up, giving you another oscillator in theory and then use the mix nob to blend in the two. So in that case am i able to take that lfo oscillator out of the mother and run it through another filter and into a seperate mixing channel giving me in theory two oscillators? Another thought i had, is if i feed one of the VCO out into the multi, is it possible to split it into two seperate waveforms thus creating 2 oscillators? I feel like this is almost definitely going to be no but its been in my mind all day. Just trying to get my head around all this modular stuff!

Sorry I missed this... Yeah, those are all good thoughts. You could feed the VCO into the mult - it's a buffered multiplier so it should be suitable for audio. Now, it would be an exact copy, not an independent waveform. But you could run it through some separate filters and things like that. (I haven't actually tried this, but I can't imagine why you couldn't!!!) This is totally the kind of creative thinking that makes modular so much fun!!!! :)

I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the opposite: why would I want an M32 if I already have some eurorack kit? What does it bring?

That's actually a really good question! Here's my take. It all comes down to value. The mother is like a whole bunch of good modules wrapped up in a package. Osc, Filter, Envelope, LFO, a handful of utilities including S+H, and a sequencer... If you were to buy those separately, you would pay much more. But... If you have a ton of eurorack, it might just be better to have separate modules... That's my take.

I see it from the other side: M32 is a great entry into (semi-)modular systems, since you get some basic modules (osc, filter, envelope, vca, sequencer) with patching capabilities. At least for me, this was the starting point 😊. If I had first invested into a „pure“ modular system, I‘d probably rather go for the Behringer system 35 modules than for M32 to get some Moog flavour.
