In house number 6 on the Fontanka embankment, from 1835 to 1918, the Imperial School of Law was located, whose students wore green uniforms with yellow buttonholes and cuffs, in winter - overcoats of the same colors and hats made of fawn. According to a popular St. Petersburg legend, for the color of the uniform, reminiscent of the plumage of a siskin, as well as for the traditional fawn hats, the students of the school were nicknamed “chizhik-pyzhik”, and this song was composed about them. That is, the word consists of two words - the name of the bird is siskin (the color of the shape) and the name of the headdress is fawn (a hat made of reindeer skin) And since all the students of the world at all times loved to take a walk and drink, they were jokingly asked the question - "Chizhik-pyzhik, where have you been?" They answered: On the Fontanka (the street where various bars, pubs and other drinking establishments were located.) drinking vodka.

Thank you guys, for showing people my beautiful city- Northern Venice. But the architecture of StPete is more like Amsterdam. There are about 300 bridges connecting almost 100 islands and isles. It was designed by mostly Italian, some French, Russian architects and one Scott- Cameron. My family, being important to Peter the Great, were allowed to settle in the new Russian capital in 1703. My grandma’s house- mansion was right on Nevsky #103. Btw, the cathedral across hotel Astoria is Isaacy. The other one, on Nevsky, is Kazan cathedral. Enjoy the white nights season full of festivals and multitude of attractions. I wish I could be your guide in the city, Sharing my love for its history, art, architecture, connected to Russian culture.

It makes sense to call that Island Park in St. Petersburg New Holland since that park reminds people of Holland in the Netherlands. I find St. Petersburg is more like Amsterdam than Venice, even though both cities have the canals. Amsterdam's architecture of the city's buildings reminds me somewhat of the St. Petersburg's architecture buildings. Even though the architecture in both cities are not identical, they feel the same. Whereas Venice, like most Italian cities, is so old and has a rich historical history, the Italian government tries not to change the landscape of its cities and country. Rome, for example, has the famous Roman Colosseum where millions of tourists visit each year when visiting Rome. And then there's that Northern Italy city of Pisa with its famous Leaning Tower of Pisa that the tourists flock to see. And of course Venice is known for it's famous canals and the gondola boats 🚢 that the city citizens and tourist alike sit in while being taken to their place of destination. This is just me rambling on ! 😊

4:28 I'd say exactly like Hamburg or Stockholm, which is not so surprising because of Peter-the-first's tight relations with that part of Europe. There is literally no free space in Venice - all of its narrow streets are full of people, while Hamburg looks and feels absolutely the same as SPB. Except, Hamburg has some modern architecture and SPB has soviet apartment blocks.
