Kuala Lumpur is a great place to live and work in. Just love the city. We stayed in a 2 bed condo at Sri Hartamas which is not far from the city centre and commuting & travelling posed no issues at all. If you fancy living in the suburbs of KL, Desa Park is a great place, very modern, very green, great eateries and (sorry!) full of expats. We are planning to relocate to Malaysia within the next 12-18 months.

I’ve been traveling to and staying in KL since 2016. I wouldn’t live here without a car, unless I couldn’t afford it. The city is reasonably sprawled, there are many nice things to do in the outskirts of the city and on the sea side. On top of that, the prices of national cars are super reasonable.

I love KL, I'm an Aussie currently living and working in Bali - but longer term I am really leaning towards Malaysia specifically KL to live one day. Has such a great mix of culture, incredible food, shopping like you said, good infrastructure (well a lot better than Bali anyway) and one of the main travel hubs in Asia, it's so easy to get to anywhere in the region on a cheap flight. Can't see myself ever going back to AU other than to visit at xmas time.

Yes, South East Asia is great. Australia is great too, but in places like Bali / KL our dollar can stretch a bit further.

Thanks Matt. Was exploring Sydney and Melbourne and decided I'm far more interested in exploring SE Asia and KL is of great interest to me. Your time there gives a lot more piece of mind for cost of living than perhaps someone visiting short term.

Malaysia is too underrated country in South East Asia compare to Singapore and Thailand,as Malaysian living LA for 6 years, surprised me that no many American knew Malaysia rather than Thailand and Singapore,i always told them to visit Malaysia bcos Malaysia offer affordable luxury lifestyle with anything from hotel, car, property, nightlife with diversity culture and food from most friendly speaking english almost anywhere in country,i decide to move back to KL coming march2024 to start my first new life@KL..you wont believed how low i pay for the rent@Unio residence kepong on 2R2B..is luxury condo..is beyong my imagination..that why i encourage foreign to consider Malaysia as second home under MM2H program for retirement,as government is revised the program for more affordable retirement now.
