To be honest you dont want to be in sri lanka right now. All these people you see in this video have been stuck in the country since February or march.These people are probably the majority of the people there.Alot of broke tourist there right now,living off one meal or 2 a day to survive.Alot of them are being assist by the locals with free accommodations or $5 per day room that way below human standard.By September things will probably get better but right now sri lanka is empty on the tourist side.Arugambe is the spot right now for tourists in sri Lanka therefore everybody moves there. I was there for a 21 days vacation in early march that turn out to be a 75 days stay because of Corona shutdown of borders.Luckily most of my time was in hikkaduwa where there were less case of virus and more freedom.Between march and end of June every tourist wasnt having a blast as they would like especially the ones in colombo/ella/ella nuwara/kandy....There was more freedom in galle/unawatuna and hikkaduwa. Dont let this video fools you,its not nice and dandy there right now.The sunshine and beach are the only 2 good things holding up that spot right now.Alot of restaurants/ bars and hotels are closed because of no tourist.

@@allfruitsripe2022 ..true that about these folk being stuck here since the global lock down on air travel.. just to get the facts straight though there weren't any cases of virus reported here . I live in the area & compared to many other areas we had ample access to the beach & all the natural settings even at peak lockdown from mid March to end of April most folk were just longing to getaway from the south Ella & else where as the open spaces here are unmatched compared to the rest of the island off course entertainment wise we started on the 10th of June & since its most open aired spaces there weren't any masks & issues.. Arugambay is never really out of season except for the surf as the monsoon changes after end a October but begins in April.. if your looking to get away from it all here is where it's at ..

I had the privilege of visiting Arugam bay in 1986, when it was an unspoiled tropical paradise with zero tourist infrastructure. I and my two friends were the only foreigners there during our idyllic week that August. We stayed in thatch huts on the beach, kerosene lamps for lighting, lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. This video actually makes me sad: because I know that I can never experience that pristine utopia again.

Nice video Johnny, Arugambay is become a very interesting place since I visited. Have a good one! Ps. It is always a good sign when locals and foreigners can chill in the same establishment peacefully. Lot of places still discriminate against locals. You actually would not believe it, sometimes I still talk in English to security at some of these places , in order to not get rejected. Good to see things are changing!
