Most patchy beards are simply beards that havent had enough time to grow and fill in. Instead of just letting them fill in alot of guys get tired of it and shave it off. I have been guilty of it myself in the past.

@@mizzoupatriot8814 well tbh it depend of the bear. there is a video on this channel who talk about how long you should let your beard grow when she is patchy, like chris pratt for exemple. And short beard are way better in his case.

Another thing I've learned is that your perception of what your beard looks like is not what others see, they arent seeing what you see and stress about when you're staring at yourself in the mirror. The easiest way to lose the battle is to look at yourself and start to analyze every little bit, step away from the mirror and let it grow.

In my school, I’ve organized an event in which all the male teachers have grown out facial hair for No Shave November, and tomorrow, November 30, we’re having students bid on the teachers, and if they win, they get to shave the teacher’s beard into whatever they want. All the money we get is going to charity. I was inspired to do this from this channel, and just thought the community might find this cool!

I just want to say that you're an inspiration to us patchy bearded folk. I'm nearly 30 and I'm still dealing with thin areas and patches that have recently been called out. I got the whole, "You can't grow a full beard so why bother?" nonsense and I hate to admit it, but it got me down on myself to where I almost took it off. These videos have been a huge help in not quitting on the beard. Thanks, Mr. Berzinsky.

I've struggled with beard growth, and have a love-hate relationship with my beard. I have patches, and stray hairs, and my cheeks take a while to fill in. I've gotten to 90 days once, then shaved it off. When I have the beard, I analyze it and give in to shaving. But when I'm clean shaven, I look at pictures of myself with a beard, and I think it looks good. I'm trying again this winter, and I'm at 30 days right about now. Your beard is definitely an inspiration to guys like me, and the fact that you shaved it off and regrew it to share your growth stages with us is extremely helpful. Thank you for all your great videos. You're one of my favorite personalities on BeardBrand.

For my entire adult life I have claimed that I can't grow a beard and made excuses why, without ever actually trying. i tried goatees which looked awful. After moving from balmy Louisiana to frigid Minnesota, I decided to try again. I followed the advice from the Beardbrand team to just let it grow and be patient, and after 2 weeks I was getting compliments from everyone at home and work, even my wife! She loves it. It's been 6 weeks now. It's not perfect (it's patchy and wiry and RED) but it's been fun. Gonna try for 90 days at least. Thanks Greg and everyone at Beardbrand.

bottasegreta do it! I’ve always worked in food so I’ve never grown a beard and I always made excuses about it being patchy or it was too itchy or too this or that etc I’m on day 64 right now and have been having fun with it. I’ve taken a pic every single day and made a one month than two month time lapse on my KZbin channel and have also been doing a weekly one (but haven’t posted it yet) But I too am aiming for the 90 day mark and I think 90 days will be my record! I dont know what day you’re at but I’ll match you and if you come back here every month (or click my pic and go to my channel) you will see proof of me matching you day for day! You can do it!

Man, this video was motivating. I am 37 years old and 6 weeks into my first real beard attempt. It's a long way from perfect, but honestly I have been pleasantly surprised. I have no illusions that I am growing anything but the best beard that I can grow. It is so easy to get discouraged and want to shave, but I am firmly committed to 16 weeks. Beyond that is anyone's guess. I very much appreciate your candor. You sir, are an inspiration.

For me, this video is precisely what I needed to see. I can't tell you how many times that I have attempted to grow a beard in the past, only to get discouraged after 3-4 weeks and shaving it all off and chalking it up to genetics or convincing myself "it wasn't meant to be" when the truth is that I never gave it a real fighting chance. A little information goes a long way, but an informative video such as this goes even further. I'm in for 90 days even though I'm late to the party here. Greg, I really enjoy your videos and I'm amazed with your transformations, your patient explanations, and your overall great demeanor. Keep up your good work sir.

Great videos on this channel. I've had short stubble for last ten years or so with the occasional attempt to grow it out. Now at 30 years old with the help of KZbin I've discovered that patches are normal and will fill in. No one in my family has ever grown a beard. My attempts always saw me give up around day 20 and trim it down to stubble saying "maybe in another 6 months I'll try again". So thank you for these videos. Seeing how someone who clearly can grow a good beard grow it and the patches even they have has encouraged me to let it go. Around day 26 was where I started to notice patches begin filling in. I'm actually getting excited to see what 60 and 90 days will look like.

I'm 22, and I didn't grow my facial hair for very long before this point because I've always had a bald spot on my left cheek just below my jawline that was so obvious to me; and when my friend would ask why I shaved my face I would just say because i wanted to but it was really because I didn't like the way it looked from the side. Now from just a few months of not growing it, i decided to for no shave November and noticed a lot more coverage on that spot and that all my facial hair in general is getting much thicker and more dense than it was before. This and your guy's channel has inspired me to go the full 90 days without shaving if not just to see what i can do. So thank you, I'll continue on my journey with you all and hopefully see you all through to the end as well, no matter what you have grow it and beard on.

Biggest struggle I have is that I want to let my beard grow to fill in the patches, but the hair outside the moustache and chin area grows curly instead of straight. So instead of it falling down and filling in the gaps, it just looks like a patchy rats nest. Even adding balm and trying to train barely keeps it in check. Then I tend to trim the beard down to a length before it starts to curl and tell myself to be content with a thinner beard.

@AL-SH
@AL-SH 6 жыл бұрын
David Manning All beards are curly, the ones you see that look straight are due to the length. I'm in my 11th week beard growth, the first few weeks are not bad, but if you can overcome the "curly, pubic" look beard from week 4 to week 8 then you'll be alright. Just don't touch your beard for at least 8 weeks, no trimming, no products. Then get into light trimming every few weeks, and light use of products. To make it look straight, use the blow dryer and a skinny/narrow brush, and curl your beard inward, towards your neck and jawline.

I tried growing beards in my younger years but never really had a nice full beard because of areas of sparse hairs....then I joined the military so beard growing no longer was an option. after retirement, I did grow a yearly beard, usually for a few months and would shave for summer...what I did notice after all these years is that my beard is now pretty consistent density wise, and now mostly gray! I do have a cool looking darker hair run from my mustache to my chin which adds a nice touch....I am now in my "grown another beard" phase....taking it a little more seriously. I still have beard "limitations" whereas I am a surgeon so beard length will need to be kept at a shorter length. so month one has passed....getting there....I would love a "Greg Berzinsky" beard and because of the coloring I am pretty certain I could nail it....thanks for all the great informative beard videos Greg....and everyone else at Beardbrand....

About 30 days in here, and the longest I have ever managed to keep a beard was about 3 months. You are lucky that your hair naturally stops that high on your throat, mine grows way under the adam's apple, and in addition to that, it also grows A LOT more curly and thicker there in comparison to my cheeks, which are very patchy even at 35 years old. I never know whether I should start carving in a neckline and eventually get irritated of the itching throat skin, or let it all grow naturally and only trim the mustache once in a while. One thing I have learned, after over 4-5 years of on and off bearding, is that whenever I start obsessing too much about the shape, thickness and what not, I tend to get frustrated and shave it all off. Sometimes just letting it do it's own thing REALLY is the best thing you can do.

You've given me the courage to actually try growing a beard.. I've always had patches where nothing would grow, and always thought I was a person who couldn't have one.. Now I know I was wrong and appreciate the help on understanding more about how there is hope with people who have patches in their facial hair...

I am a bit of a fast grower too and I had to shave my beard recently for a tattoo project, now 2 weeks and an half in, cant wait for the end of the month. I get a strong goatee very quickly but the sides are very sparse so it takes a long time to fill in. I still grow everything I can and go to a barber to shape it after a few months of growth and I recommend people to do the same.

Well Im 19 and in my 5th week of no shaving. It was clear that I will grow out a great mustache and will have very good coverage on my chin but it was also clear that I will have big bold spots on my cheeks. Well after 5 weeks I'm very proud of my mouth area. I've noticed that there are some thin hairs on my cheeks which gives me the hope of having a full beard in a few years. Kind regards from Germany :D

Just started growing my beard, about 10 days in and I've got pretty good coverage, I was a part of Movember once but only grew the handle bar mustache. I am so glad I have found this channel for learning about what to expect during this process.

First time growing out my beard. It seems to come in pretty well. I made the mistake of trying to shape my cheeks and because I'm not experienced. I messed it up on one side. I left it that way for about a week but then decided to shave it down to a #1 to even it back out. I definitely learned from my mistake. Now I'm gonna let it grow with out messing with it.

Trevor Bradley yes Trevor just leave the beard for four weeks. The shape it as you want to see what natural shape your beard has. If you want to achieve a longer beard then all you need to do is let it be. Good luck and keep us all updated bro

I used to trim my beard chinstrap style when I was younger. I eventually got sick of having to shave the sides off and starting over, because chinstrap takes a LOT of work to maintain. We learn from our mistakes. ;)

Thanks for motivation. Im 25 and have never grown beard, I always thought I'll never gain full beard, cause of my patches . Right now I have been growing for 2 weeks. The patches are filling in and my beard seems to grow like crazy. Maybe Its still below average, but It gave me hope to have a full, healthy beard .

I'm on board. I had the beard going. When I saw the video that you shaved your beard off, it gave me an idea. I wanted to bring awareness to the No Shave November Foundation at my workplace. I also thought that when growing it back through out the month and beyond, I would have someone near my own age to kind of, compare my growth with. Thanks Gman.

It’s been several weeks and the itching at times, is not fun. Started to use beard oil and it helps. The color is mostly white in the cheeks and chin with the mustache being a salt/pepper mix. I made a mistake shaving the neck beard to close to the chin and not doing the 1-2 finger space from the Adams Apple. I am correcting that. I am over 65, bald and it’s my first attempt but wife is not excited. Have had a goatee for the last 10 years. My goal is to go to the end of April and evaluate.

From Saskatchewan, I shaved my beard today but left long sideboards, mustache, and goat. It's spring and I wanted to try something different. I last shaved my chin August 19th/2010. I'm a half century old, Greg and most of the white in my hairs are in my beard. Unfortunately, my "Back 40" (Top of my head) has thinned quite abit in the last 2 years. Before 2003, I had every colour in my beard consistently. Within the next year the white showed up. I have very little or no grey hairs. I have also an odd shaped head too! One side is slightly longer and wider than the other. The hardest part to trim is my sideboards is because I have to take off my glasses to do this job. What makes it harder is I have astigmatism. I also have slight visual close up troubles with one eye also. I do my best. Patience and deep breathing is my key when trimming my beard. When I shave with the safety razor I use just hot water & the razor itself. To trim my beard & stache I use barber shears, toenail scissors (mustache), and a comb. I don't use clippers because of skipping and pulling of hairs. So Greg, that's me in nutshell and I've been shaving since I was 11 when I grew my first beard. Take care.

Hey Greg, Today is the 17th of April, 2020, and here in the UK, we are 3 1\2 weeks into the Corona Virus lockdown. So I decided to grow my beard from the start of lockdown, so by another 4 days, it will be a month for me. First of all, I wish I had read the small print, saying when I am in my 60's, my hair would grow through with a lot of white in it? Once I got over that shock, I agree with everything you say I should notice in beard growth and patterns. I don't have any patches at this stage where it looks like I have alopecia, that's good! On the sides of my face, the hair growth direction is down and back and is even on both sides. I am determined to get to 90 days before getting it styled into what I want, and that I think is a secret, have a goal in mind, if not, there could be more chance in giving up. I have already ordered a brush, comb, beard balm to keep me going. Finally, I decided to take a photo of my face and beard once a week, and at the end of it all will put it all together in a video. I've subscribed to you, like your vids and it was all meant to be I came across this one titled 'Expectations for one month's beards' when I am almost at that point. Thanks, Michael

My beard looks very similar to yours when at that lenght... I never dared to grow it out because of that, because I thought it would never grow out good and that it would always have patches. I have now grown it out for 60 days though and it's starting to look pretty good. Going for 1 years! Thanks for the inspo.

Funny cause my wife didn't like me shaving. Neither did my kids. Glad to be on this journey with you. Can't wait to see where your at after 60 days

I havent shaved my beard for one year approx. but did some trimming of course and I noticed that my beard grows faster in some areas. I was perplexed but I took it as it is. The left side of my moustache grows faster than my right side and it was even plain to see, after 7-8 months I would estimate that the difference between both sides were at least 3 cm.

I'm doing the full 90 days for Movember, some self exploration, and in hopes that my beard will keep my face warm for winter. It's been an entire year since I last grew out my beard! And I've never grown it out for more than a few weeks. I've noticed some pretty wild changes since then with respect to density and coverage. I still cant grow much more than some peach fuzz for a moustache and it annoys the heck out of me. Either way, thanks for always pointing out the flaws in your beards, it's made me much more comfortable with mine!! You guys kick ass.

Have the exact same situation, grows down and forward one side, grows nearly straight back on the other. At age 57, I've never grown it out past stubble because of this, thinking there is no way for it to ever look right. So, thanks for the info and as of seeing another vid where you talked about that, I'm into week 6 now and feel better that those hairs will, at some point, start to fall downward! Coooommme oooon some point!! ;)

I just passed 3 months. This is the first time i've grown it out after starting minoxidil, of which i've been using for roughly 10 months. And you would not believe the progress. It grows pretty much full all over besides the soul patch area. I've also noticed my hair along mid cheek kind of curls upwards, though this helps it fluff up when i comb it out to look wooly and thick lol! Plan to grow for at least 6 months. Cheers to Beards!

My entire neck grows to the right. It’s a swirl pointing to my thick side. The first two weeks were rough because of how awkward it looks, but I’m experiencing much more fullness out of this yeard. I’ve also noticed my cheek lines are coming in fuller where I used to shave. So I’m embracing every hair for 30 days to see how they go.

I never went over 2 weeks without trimming my beard and mustache, because at that point it grows over 6mm and I get this hedgehog thing sticking out of my chin and same with the mustache. I always assumed that's just my screwed up facial hair, so I always trimmed it. Then I full shaved about 3 weeks ago and decided since the whole lockdown is going on right now, I'll save it for a while longer... Then I randomly found one of these videos and finding out that it's not just my hair that sticks out like that when it's starting to grow is what's really making me wanna save up and try a proper beard and mustache this time. I'm definitely giving it a good 2-3 months to see what happens.

I’m 2months in and my growth is just a little thicker that what you have achieved in a month. My patches are fading away but my sides are not coming up as high as I’d like them to. My moustache is grown faster than anything else. The hairs are getting into my mouth. I keep pushing them to the side but I might have to trip the bottom a little soon.

My beard hair is so thick and strong in the thicker area, even after 3-5 months, the hair still sticks out. I just recently shaved to 16MM, and at that length, though I appear to have a cowlick, the hairs in the thick/dense part are strong and dense enough enough that they all stick together. My moustache is so thick, it can go halfway to my jaw, and it will still go right back in to place if I try to move it. (It naturally curls downward, though.) And I'm only 23, lol. When I rub the hair below my jaw, it feels like a bristle brush. (Not quite as sharp, though.) It's amazing.
