Don't be fooled by this profesionally made tourist promotion film. jakarta is a dirty, filthy, over polluted, over priced shithole, where a bottle of "cheap" table wine will cost you USD 40 in wine store or supermarket, (more in a restaurant) if you can find one that sells it, and the traffic is so bad that it can take up to 4 hours just to get from one side of the city to the other. Except if it were for business, I cannot think of one reason why anyone would want to travel to Jakarta, when you have such great cities as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore and Saigon, all in that part of the world, and all much more tourist friendly.

For Jakarta, you have to prepare for hard traffic congestion. Just tips, rent motorcycle or use ojek (local term for taxibike) to short your time when you move from one place to another. Use sunblock when you go outside in day time cause the sun ray can kill you. Lol

hahah Jakarta is not that beautiful that's why we don't have many foreign travellers just mostly business expat, different than other ASEAN cities like singapore,KL,Bangkok,& maybe Saigon. They are more care about tourism and has a good urban planning as well

Great video, Expedia! Hope you could make videos for many great Indonesian cities in the future, e.g.: 1. Medan (great cultural mix, food, and historical buildings, not neglecting Lake Toba which is reachable from that city), 2. Padang (great food and scenery, especially the hill of Bukittinggi) 3. Bandung (creative city, great mountainous scenery) 4. Yogyakarta (center of Javanese culture, amazing Borobudur & Prambanan temples, good natural scenery) 5. Semarang (preserved old city area, many good historical buildings) 6. Surabaya (the 2nd Indonesian business city, lots of delicious foods, Suramadu bridge) 7. Makassar (delicious foods especially its seafood, great sunset, 6 hours from this city lies Toraja where you can experience one of the most unique tradition) 8. Manado (Nice coastal city, great diving experience in Bunaken) and many more that I can't mention one by one (many fascinating beaches and natural sceneries also in Eastern part of Indonesia).

There are a lot of nice budget hotels scattered around the city. In my personal opinion, Jakarta is not really a city designed to be a tourism destination, so I'd suggest you to stay in the city for 2/3 days and then head up to other cities on the island such as Bandung (Paris van Java, Paris of Java) and Yogyakarta (The cultural capital of Java, and they also have a governing Sultanate), all of them are reachable by train, and it won't cost you that much. But if you're really keen on only visiting our capital, then you might want to check out the museums, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (the theme park mentioned on this video) and of course the shopping malls lol, Jakarta's shopping malls are pretty if not super dope. Try to visit one of Jakarta's many "pasar" (market) to taste some of the local delicacies and get a glimpse of the life of locals. And definitely check out the independence square! If you want to be a little fancy, you can get around the town with Gocar or Grab-car, but if you're on a budget, try our homegrown motorbike-hailing app, Gojek! You can also get around with our newly built MRT and LRT, as well as the nationally famous Jakartan "busway". Have fun and enjoy Indonesia!
