There's something great about this video. Nice slow pace, a really personal video, no need for questions, or music, it's just really nice to get that first person view. It's pace reminds me of watching a scene out of 2001, then I realise that this is reality. It's awesome!

Great video! I'm agreeing with several others regarding the relaxed pace of the video, and being able to see what goes on inside a Soyuz. That is a place where you would not want to get a cramp though! :-) Thank you for sharing!

That's some mighty tight quarters in the Soyuz. Looks even snugger than Apollo.

As a person who is 5'5" , I'm sure I would fit pretty good in the Soyuz spacecraft 🎉

@Thorralf83 They were not wearing pressure suits in this video because it was only a training session for descent. For the actual descent, yes, they would have on pressure suits. @RickyboyH Yes, you can hear Cady say very quietly at the end that this is the night before EVA, so you are correct -- they are isolated for pre-breathe.

@Thorralf83 They only need to wear the pressure suits for Soyuz descent, just incase the capin depressurises. The last Soyuz mission that didn't use pressure suits caused all three Cosmonauts to die when the docking hatch didn't close properly.

I think they keep the windows covered to protect from the heat and the blinding light.

Would be great to see inside footage of the capsule reentry: a window camera could capture the glowing isolation melting away; two intersting moments inside would be the parachute deploying and the "~20 m/s car crash" at the end.

@IOnGust Aircon, ventillation, Soyuz systems, Station systems, all kinds of mechanical sounds that keep the Astros alive! :)

@nickyp28 Thank you for your answer, but with all my respect, your answer wasn't a clear one to me, actually. Because this IS a descent, because they are preparing themselves to leave the station and enter the earths atmosphere. And they are not wearing any pressure suits. And by the way, i do not know about a soyuz mission were the cosmonauts died because of a not well closed hatch. May I ask you what the name, year and number of this deadly mission was?

they sit in there for 3 days each way up and down from space right? must be real kozy. do they hold their stool in or does the soyuz have a shitter?

@vikingvic Launch to docking takes 3 days ... landing takes like 6-8 hours

Looks like the two astronauts at the end of the clip were about to do a spacewalk? (Since the hatch was closed, and the american spacesuits operate at 4.3 psi at 100% O2, so they would have to pre-breathe 100% O2 to purge the nitrogen from their blood, correct?)

@quantumn0ise Aye, thats correct, happened after undocking of the first expedition of the first ever manned space station, Salyut 1.

how do they get into the pressure suits in that tiny little space?

the comfort you talk about might be one of the reason they reduced the trip to the I S S from 2 days to juts under 1 day even that 1 day would be 1 day too long lol

Wonder how it is when the Soyuz descent module enters the atmosphere and then hits the ground firing its brakes.

I would be so claustrophobic I couldn't do it. Give me the shuttle any day. I love both space programs but I can't get closed in so tight that I can't move or stretch. I think they can move a bit around in the upper chamber but that's before they come through the atmosphere. That section is gone by then.

5:13 She picks up Soyuz "Exploitation Manual", looks at it, pretends to look serious, then figures, - who am I kidding, they all know I am not fluent in Russian, drops the manual, :-)) ...plays with the cap, figures out- what's the use, I can't fit ALL my hair in it anyway, drops everything and floats away thinking: "- thank providence all these people around me appear to know what they are doing", I'd be totally helpless if I were left here to my own devices." LOL
