This is a story of four children at the Sapgyo Community Children's Center exploring the Volcano Sumeru, located in Java Island, Indonesia.
다큐 ‘스메루 원정대’는 인도네시아 자바섬에 위치한 스메루 화산을 삽교지역아동센터 어린이 네명이 탐험하는 이야기입니다.
The Sapgyo Children's Center completed preparations for exploring the volcano after 5 months of hard training, such as physical training, climbing training, and camping training, after going through the process of selecting expedition members in February 2019.
삽교지역아동센터에서는 지난 2019년 2월 탐험 대원 선발과정을 거쳐 5개월간 체력훈련, 등반훈련, 캠핑훈련 등 힘든 훈련을 거치며 화산을 탐험위한 준비를 마쳤습니다. 본 다큐에서는 6월 22일에 진행된 용봉산 등반훈련부터 인도네시아 현지 로케이션(7/23~30)까지 화산 탐험대의 활동 모습을 기록하였습니다.
Sumeru Volcano is an active volcano with an altitude of 3,676 meters and still actively erupting water vapor and gas. It is said that the god of hell lives in Sumeru volcano. There is a legend that when you reach the top, the god will answer a prayer. One child said she wanted to see her mother in heaven again.
스메루 화산은 해발고도 3,676미터로 현재도 활발하게 수증기와 가스를 분출 하고 있는 활화산입니다. 스메루 화산에는 지옥의 신이 살고 있다고 하는데 산 정상에 오르게 되면 그 죽음의 신이 소원을 들어준다고 하는 전설이 있습니다. 한 아이는 하늘에 있는 엄마를 다시 한번 만나보고 싶다는 말을 했습니다.

i took my brother (9yr) to climb mt. semeru in 2018, it was very hard for child, not just physically but mentally must be trained too, i trained my brother really hard before summit to overcome unwanted things like hypothermia and many more, thank god we did it

I prefer Rinjani mt rather than semeru mt or other volcanoes in java island exceptional for Argopuro mt cuz there are a lot of water source like small river or waterfall and more trees and sabana vegetation plants. Not like semeru too much ashes and dust. If u make trip to argopuro you may get bonus special destination to ijen mt in banyuwangi. Rinjani and argopuro is recommended for you.

As the hikers said, reaching the peak is only a bonus. But being safe and can return to the home is the destiny. It's ok today we can't make it. So there will be another reason to go back someday at the different time and different condition. So proud of them. At their age they have an opportunity to climb this beautiful mountain. Hiking in Semeru is a bit hard even for adult. Because I have some friends who often do a hiking in many kind of mountain in our country, Indonesia. But if you can reach the peak, it's so beautiful. My friend told me that the most IMPORTANT thing is not about reaching the peak, but the process you can enjoy & eating together with your lovely friends. You guys really did a great job.

@@dlrrbs You also can try mount Prau , only 2565 mdlp, via Patak Banteng only 2 hours to reach the top. At the top you can camp and see 5 mountains, Mount Sumbing, Sindoro, Merapi, Merbabu, and Slamet. But in holiday, it pack with hikers and often congested. Yea, there are traffic to climb a mountain 😅.

climb up the peak of mahameru is one of the biggest challenges in my entire life, it's hard for sure, even to reach the kalimati is already frustrating, those kids are extraordinary, they're super kid, i adore them, please don't cry, you can hike mahameru again one day, like what people said, mountain doesn't go anywhere, when you hike the mountain, the real purpose is not to reach the highest peak, but to go home safely. semangat ya anak-anak.

Woaaaahh... Climbing Mahameru at that age, esp came from country with different climate, it must be very hard. I'm so proud of them. I also didn't get 'permission' from nature to get to the peak. It was bad weather, rain almost along the way, esp from Ranu Kumbolo to Kalimati. I know how it feels when you cannot get to the end point when you almost get there. It broke my heart when I saw Jaemin's and the teacher's tears. But Mahameru is still there. When he calls, then you will meet him.

If you take kids and adults over 40 yo to Semeru, i suggest to make camp for 2 nights at kalimati so the children can acclimate. So the total nights should be 3 nights. One night in Ranu Kumbolo then 2 nights in Kalimati. You should summit on the second night. That is what i have been planning to do with my children. But our plans were cut because Semeru had the forest fires then closed (my booking for Semeru was 5 oct 2019) just until today april 1st, 2021 it was open again for public, yet climbing to the peak is still prohibited. I hope you guys can come back & try again. Much love from Indonesia ❤️

for semeru summit's attack, u need well prepared both mentally and physically. in my case, i start 10 pm at kalimati (dont forget bring hiking stick ofc, its really helpfull) and end up in the summit at 8-9 am, dont scatter from your group, atleast one person can cheer you up and be helping hand from time to time. dont forget bring your chocolate or brown sugar for recharge your energy

My brother, perhaps try lower mountains first since the children had to deal with temperature and climate contrast, and semeru was too extreme of a leap-start. I do hope everyone will be succeeded to climb to the top!!

Its alright guys, im sure you'll get on top of the mountain. I have to admit, my 18 years old body at that time wasn't really that strong to get on top of the peak. But, fortunately we managed to get on top of the mountain. Can't wait to see your videos on top of Mahameru Peak!

Super kid,super teacher.... Saloute to the Kid....they just kid Semeru is highest mountaint in Java indonesia. I m hiking lover too...but when i heard Semeru .... Very tough and difiicult to climb up. I m aDult man they just a kid... I ve been a few mountaint in Java but not Semeru... Great applause to then and Great teacher who always guideing and supporting the kid. Event they Failed to reach the Top...they still great...only at the last part failed I know that one is the hardest part...last part to the Top. No one climb Semeru at that Age...they are great. Bravo....try next time with more energy.
