Are you still traveling, and if I remember correctly you said you were thinking about going on the road with a van?

Another great little clip, this is now officially my favourite KZbin channel, can't stop recommending it to people! Betsy is looking fantastic, the way you guys are just jumping in at the deep end really is inspiring. Noomi's jealous she doesn't have a floor like that! Question: What tyres/ rims are you using? Our latest hurdle, we've got 12.00 R20's on split rims not a great option & deadly to change but will do for the short term. Would like to upgrade to 22.5's but worried about ratio's/ gearing, any advise from you/ others would be appreciated. Noomi's the slightly smaller 1113.

Hey Paul. Hope all is well in J-Bay. Thank you for the kind words man. I'm sure you made some good progress with Naomi since we last chatted. For the wheels we have 10.00R20 on split rims at the moment, and actually hoped to go over to 12.00R20's, but later read about others that have 385/65/22.5 and love them. Another told me he had 14.00R20's, but felt that they were too heavy and that it was affecting his power. So if you find out, let me know!

@@NuminousExpeditions We're almost finished the mechanical upgrades we wanted & the chassis has had a great make-up job. Hope to have her running again by end of month. Would also like to eventually switch to 385/65/22.5 but have been warned that gearing ratios could be an issue, trying to get a definitive answer, will keep you posted.

i tried to do aluminum also and it would have costed me more than two times the truck cost lmao. im going with steel and wood now. wish me luck
@NuminousExpeditions2 жыл бұрын
I had my heart set on Aluminium, as most guys with steel frames complain about weight being an issue. You should check out the light modular steel. Very light - our frame weighs in at 260kg's.. we built our previous camper with steel and plywood, but on a f250. Was way too heavy for the pickup. Good luck, and safe travels

Hey Kevin. Hope you're well. Thank you for the feedback, and we also wish we could get it done quicker. Yes, the water bladder supplier is Flexi Tank Systems in Midrand. The contact person is Frikkie. Hope that helps. Have a great one

Hi there, hope you're doing well. Hmm, I'll have to go and look. We've been on the road for more than a year now, so we re not based on the farm anymore. I'll try to ask Pugs.

to be blunt I feel your design is way too heavy, for the size of cabin it is, I feel your steel thickness is way too thick and the floor is just too heavy and overbuilt. I'm thinking about building my own and so far I've come across 2 videos, one by Overlander, they use aluminum for the floor frame and the skeleton is also aluminum and way thinner guage than what you are using. I think it adds uneccessay weight and the strength just could be used to build out the inside cabinets and stuff. I can't imagine what kind of walls this will have but it would be a miracle the framing itself doesnt put this thing too close to its max weight towing capacity.

Hey there. Thanks for your comment. The frame is lightweight steel (the frame is not yet on this video). The whole frame weighs in at 250kg's (the which is the weight of three men.. the truck has a gvm of 15000kg's, and the cab and chassis is less than 5000kg's. That gives us 10tons. The floors base is the only thing built from heavy steel - this will be quite easy to see on our next video, I'm sure you'll get a better picture. We obviously don't want to get near the GVM, and for us to properly distribute weight, we need a low center of gravity ie floor and water tanks suspended from floor. Aluminium is a great option, but only if you've got the funds to cover it. We should be more than 6 tons underweight when the truck is done. I'll also attach a sneak peak of the frame for you - the 250kg frame:
