Expedition WET Western Ecology Tour - Ep3 - Project Seagrass in North Wales - Llŷn Peninsula

In the third episode of the Western Ecology Tour films, we visit Jake Davies and Project Seagrass on the Llŷn Peninsula, North Wales. Visiting Porthdinllaen, Jake shows the team around the local Seagrass beds and explains how its seeds are collected to be replanted around the UK. He then takes everyone to do an 8am and 8pm dive at his favourite local dive site Porth Ysgaden.
Project Seagrass is an environmental organisation devoted to advancing the conservation of seagrass through education, influence, research, and action. Project Seagrass was created with the intention of reversing the loss of seagrass by turning research into effective conservation action and communication through partnerships with local communities and other stakeholders.
Since 1980, we’ve lost over 35% of our seagrass meadows. That equates to about 1.5% per year, or 2 football fields each hour. This rate of loss is equal to that of coral reefs and rainforests, yet seagrass receives no attention and we’re here to change that!
Project Seagrass is committed to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems and ensuring that the benefits they provide communities are sustained now and for the future.
