Expedition Overland

Күн бұрын

Our trip through Southern Africa has been a trip of a lifetime, and it’s not over yet. We have over 1,000km to go before the end of the expedition, most of it on dirt.
The team begins their push through South Africa to explore local 4x4 trails and campsites. A local ECO Trail system is calling our name, but can the trucks and team make it through this remote part of the country?
This is just the beginning of our time in Africa.

One thing that stands out to me as I watch this series is that you can see how well these children are being raised. It stands out because it’s such a rare thing to see.

I just binge-watched the entire season, and I’m blown away. As someone originally from Namibia and now living in South Africa, this resonated with me on so many levels. It wasn’t just the adventure that captivated me but also the genuine human connection. The way you reflect on your emotions, communicate, and raise your children is something truly special-something we don’t often see anymore. It was both heartwarming and inspiring.

I have followed most, if not all, of your series and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I used to do many 4x4 trails and over landing trips with my family but alas no more. So following yours is somewhat nostalgic. As a South African, I had been to many of the places you went in this series and it was great to see them all again through your eyes. My very first overland trail was the Namaqua Eco trail. I did feel like pointing out some great places you missed on your route, but then there simply wasn't enough time to see everything. As mentioned in the episode it felt like you had a lot of time but you could have spent a year on this trip. Thank you so much for sharing all your trips with us. Wishing you safe travels back home and many more adventures.

The two major things Clay and Torfi said that stood out the most was when they mentioned Time. Bringing your kids with you and mentioning how time marches on with or without you, and how you think you have all this time but you really don't. That gave me goosebumps, brought tears to my eyes, as I have a 6 month old boy that I want to give him the life all the boys have. This has really pushed me to finish my overland build. I probably feel like Clay did in the beginning of XO. Financially is it smart to build an overlanding rig, God no, but it can it lead to the best experiences this world has to offer, yes. Clay, Rachelle, XO Team, be on the lookout for a serious 4th Gen 4runner build in the near future. Maybe a rig worthy enough to tag along with your team.

Excellent series as always, it sure sucks to see it all end. The main thing I like in this one and even the last adventure was your kids being there with you. Both kids seem to be very self aware, intelligent and just good kids, I think that's a prop to their parents.... as a parent myself, I am trying to do the same with my children and hope to take them on adventures someday, maybe not quite this big but something along those lines haha thanks so much for sharing. Cheers from New Brunswick, Canada.

The first part of your trail went through a region known as the Richtersveld, which is a truly incredible part of the world. It's a biodiversity hotspot with around 30% of the plant species being endemic to that region. Next time you can consider going slightly further North into the Richtersveld National Park - the scenes there are truly spectacular, and it's accessible to 4WD vehicles only.
