Expeditions was probably a little cursed from Day one having to follow scythe and all the expectations that brings. And while its a good enough game, and i enjoyed my plays. I don't know if the box size, board presence and overall price point are well matched to the experience of the game itself. Scaling is also still just a bit weird too and im not sure i would play it 5 player, or 2 player for that matter

I LOVE that you drop your actual opinion on the game itself.

I got this one with the intention of playing it solo, and happily it works great that way for my tastes. I have fun exploring the clever cards and combos on offer here. I saw and/or read Jamey's developer diaries during the lead-up to its release, helping to calibrate my expectations. I'd also like to try it 2 player to see how that feels, and I look forward to what they have in store for this game next.

@garyk5277 what do you mean?
@iansutton74169 ай бұрын
Conversely Scythe wasn't for me. Whilst the euro elements were interesting, area control isn't my thing, and the area control in Scythe felt somewhat opaque i.e. it makes little sense to fight... until it does. I can understand why others like it though, in the same way Gloomhaven, Eclipse 2nd dawn etc. have incorporated euro mechanisms into Ameri style settings. This one I'll probably play sometime.

@@3MBG No hidden meaning. A lot of reviewers or rules explainers don't offer their opinion on the game. I was just expressing my appreciation that you did that.

A couple games gave it a scare, but Expeditions ended up being my favorite game of 2023. I don't like the box (I don't like inserts, and that's the only reason the box is that size), I've almost only played it at 5 player and had no qualms with going last and taking the "worst" mech, and I like how the game actually does feel different at each player count. It's my favorite Stonemaier release because it has what is now one of my favorite game engines ever - the mix of worker colors with multi use cards, casual use of spacial aspects and adjacency. Love it. Love it love it love it.

Scythe was my first "real" hobby game. So when Expeditions was announced, I was thrilled. It's on my short list...

I enjoy it a lot at two players, I have not tried it at five. Overall I really like it. Jamey has already confirmed, kind of, there will be an expansion.

Scythe is probably my favorite game. I expeditions a lot as well. Sticks with the 1920+ world that I love. I really like both games for different reasons.

Love the subliminal advertising for Red Dust Rebellion in your opening credits. Very nice!

Battle tech for pacifists..lol that is fitting and sp funny

Battletech was my first real heavy game, and the idea of having a mech that ain't blasting people with its autocannons, well, that's novel to me ;)

Punishing me for dithering around aimlessly? Join the queue Expeditions. Still, it does look different enough to Scythe so as long as everyone else is dithering too it'd probably be a fun enough time :)

Am I the only one who saw the teal and orange values climbing and used for tests and thought of Strength and Skill from Talisman? I tried it early at Geekway to the West last year and it felt like Jamey was trying to geek up the venerable standard.

I recall Jamey saying at one point that this started out as him trying to create a Scythe themed deck building game (and I think that DNA is still visible in ways), but this is what it (obviously) morphed into in the end.

I see what you did with Storm Riders....

I played expeditions just after storm raiders, and honestly, it was closer to what i thought the gameplay of Storm raiders was going to be than Storm Raiders itself. It was a very odd sensation, and now the two games are connected in my head
