Man, Japan has some amazing marketing folks. I know this is a funny takeaway from a video about roller coasters, but that ad with the chanting and the people being flung towards the camera really sells the idea of the ride in a fun, funny, exciting way.

This was the only rollercoaster I've been on where I actually blanked out for half a second during the launch phase. There are instructions all over the ride telling the rider to not lean forward at all and to have your hands on the arm rest before and during the launch. Those injuries were definitely caused by not following instructions.

I think if we want to make a coaster with this acceleration again, the launch system must included headrest and back switches, until all occupants pressed their head and back firmly on the switches, it wouldn't launch. That's the only way I think will make it safe.

Unfortunately, it may have actually violated OSHA regulations, and was thus unfit to operate. However, the park continued to lie to people until they found the perfect excuse to absolve themselves of guilt and remorse, with the rollercoaster being scrapped entirely and letting nature reclaim the land.

Having rode Do-Donpa in 2013 one thing I can say is the seats in the more modern trains might be a reason. When I rode the seat back was very straight and designed so you leaned back into it to brace your neck and spine. The more modern seats appear bucket style, which may constrict movement to dissipate energy. (I was back row so this might be a skewed perspective) Amazing ride when I went, literally like being shot from a cannon. You go from nothing to blitz so fast you can't scream. The top hat was also mental, despite being around 118kg at the time, I still leapt way out of my seat, to the point I was ready to re-enact the worst of Theme Park on a 90's pc XD

I rode dododonpa a couple of times in 2019 and had no idea there was any danger on it. The first time I went on I was on my own and I was shocked by the power of the launch. After riding the other coasters in the park I went back for seconds and met another tourist and convinced them to buy a fast pass and we rode it together. While waiting for the launch the other person was turned talking to me and I said to them "you probably want to put your head back for this" and a few seconds later we were shot out of the tunnel! I dont doubt that someone could get injured if they were positioned awkwardly during the launch

Reminds me of Dream World's Tower of Terror (Queensland, Australia) with its electronic acceleration, a decade before Superman The Ride. I was there when they were first testing it, and the Japanese park owner was standing there watching with a smile on his face. The sound of the ride I'll never forget. It was like a Tesla Coil from Red Alert charging up. You blasted out of the tunnel at high speed, sped through the park in a straight line, and straight up this huge tower, before falling back down again. Brilliant!

5:38 I have to correct you there cause it works the other way around. The central tank the pressure tank which shoots compressed air in the 4 cilinders on each side of the tower. Each cylinder has a piston which is connected to a cable, having the cart held by a cable on every side of the tower. You did got it correct that its using the cylinder pressure to weigh the cart. I've operated one of these rides for several seasons as my main So I got to know the mechanics of it quite well 😂

Thank you for doing this roller coaster and also for talking about Fuji-Q Highland. Some roller coaster enthusiasts forget about this park a lot in their videos but happy you did it. This was one of my favorite roller coasters at Fuji-Q, when I lived in Japan. That launch was really fast, it made you feel like if you were a F/A-18 pilot about launch off an aircraft carrier. Even the hydraulic sounds you would hear when you about launch reminded me of the catapults you would hear when the jets launched. I was super sad to hear that they had closed it down, because I really wanted to ride it one more time before moving back to the states. Having ridden it both versions of the coaster, the top hat was fun, but the loop was amazing, especially when you felt like you were going in slow motion. Fuji-Q is definitely a park I majorly recommend going if you are ever in Japan, especially now that they have a new boomerang type coaster.

I went to Fuji-Q for the first time in May 2024 and didn't realize until I got to the park that Do-Dodonpa was permanently closed. Very sad that I didn't get the opportunity to break my bones, but all of the other coasters at the park were still worth the trip. Eejanaika is my new favorite coaster.

If you didn't get the chance to ride it think of the fastest launch coaster you have ridden. s&s's space shot at adventureland was one of the first 'thrill' rides I remember riding. I had no idea how significant that model was for coaster-building as a whole!

I feel so upset for the one woman who was interviewed on the news after sustaining a neck fracture. Coaster bros decided she must have lied because she didn't realize how serious the injury was right away and went about her evening, so naturally she was blamed and harassed for talking about having her neck broken. Because obviously, the one thing that always convinces corporations to scrap billion-dollar rides is a singular person saying they got hurt.

Hmm, air launch coaster... I think there's a lot of theme potential there. Can anyone say "naval aviation?" Paramount take note: This screams Top Gun.

Rode it when the injuries starting getting reported in 2020, and it was starting to run like crap (compared to my first rides, went from a top 15 to a bottom 5 with how much it hurt).

Here's to hoping that Fuji-Q decides that they have a reputation to uphold, and say "hold my beer, you Yanks and Brits, because the Land of the the Rising Sun will settle this record once and for all (at least until someone is crazy enough to pry that damned record away yet again)! I think that the problem was the transition to a new set of tracks. Hopefully, Fuji-Q and S&S learn from their mistakes, and take another bite at that apple to create another insane coaster. As for Bucket List Coasters: Eeijanaika: It's like a Skyscraper and a Roller Coaster decided to have a baby I305: G's so intense, they make passengers pass out? Challenge Accepted! Ride to Happiness: All of the fun of a crazy mouse coaster and an inverting coaster in one package. Yes please! Tornado Shockwave: 5.9 G loops. Need I say more?

Sadly, I don't think a launch like Do-Dodonpa will come for a while. The fastest accelerating coasters are often maintenance nightmares like air-compressed launches and hydraulic launches. Today parks want to play it safe and are fine with settling for less. Just take a look at Top Thrill Dragster (2)! I'm just surprised that in 2024 engineers still haven't figured out how to get a fast accelerating launch (hydraulic or air-compressed) while making it reliable (LSM) at the same time.

I still don't understand why they didn't reduce it from super death speed to just regular super speed. Until they introduced the death part they never had an issue.

Xclerator at Knotts is the fastest launch I've ever been on. It claims 0-82 in 2.3 seconds. Idk but it feels pretty fast to me lol. I'd really like to ride Iron Gwazi and Steel Vengeance someday.
@A_A610
@A_A610 6 ай бұрын
It's a really solid launch, and still one of the harshest. To give you an idea of how intense this was, its updated acceleration was nearly double that of Xcelerator (~1.7G compared to ~3.3G).

As a small child I remember one of those very fast "neck break" roller coasters that was white and red with a demon horse theme on it, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it or the park. I was too little to ride it but I remember watching it take off and it scared the hell out of me lmao
