I simply do not get Brooks saddles, but I will accept them on something retro or purely for style. People who put them on modern carbon bikes are monsters.

You guys are my kindred spirits! I have a custom English cycles with a Chris King HS to match the paint, a custom silica frame pump to match paint - Rob at English even added a frame peg on the seat tube to fit the pump perfectly. Also, every bike needs stainless steel king cages!

Frame pumps are old school but very effective. Years ago my favorite was made by Zefal. Bikes used to be made with pump pegs on the inside of the steer tube to help keep them in place. Chris King anything is top quality and not overindulgent. Their stuff seldom wears out. I had one headset that lasted through three frames. I have Chris King headset and bottom bracket on my titanium gravel bike.

I have a Chris King headset with over 200k, unmaintained miles on it and its still smooth. I've not had the same luck with their road hubs though. I had to adjust the preload far too often on the two sets I owned.

I have a silca impero frame pump (the one shown in your picture) and it is indeed a wonderful bit of kit. Mine’s mounted on the rear QR skewer and the join of the seat tube and seat stays (as required by The Rules) It has the benefit of being really sturdy should you have to fend off a highwayman

I remember Rob English from club cycling events in the Berkshire (UK) area around 20 years ago, he'd often win, on and off road. I particularly remember he won a 7x10mile lap xc mountain biking endurance race on a super light rigid mtb where he was involved in the frame design for a dutch bike company. Then he moved to the USA, good to see he's making cool bikes!

Chris King “unnecessary”, “indulgent”? The quality and support are legendary for a reason. Yesterday I took off a brand new other brand headset to replace it with a CK Dropset because the bike will be in harsh conditions so we’re not taking chances. Every bike I own has CK bearings. They’re serviceable and rebuildable and the fact is that they last a long time. The support is awesome.
@kisong1960

It is unnecessary. Back when they first came out, a reliable sealed bearing headset was a rare product in the market. Nowadays, any half decent headset will work the same.

@frankboyer1490
@frankboyer1490 2 ай бұрын
@@ronm9357 Arguing over Cane Creek vs Chris King is ridiculous. Unless you buy some cheapo, sketchy headset that nobody has ever heard of or do barspins for a living, the majority of modern headsets are going to perform how they should. Where you might see some differences is with longevity and durability in relation to different use cases. CK's are made to be serviceable, which is great when you're trying to get back on the bike ASAP. There are even how-to videos for it, even from CK themselves. They also have a lifetime warranty on all their headsets and Cane Creek has it on their 110 series. Along with those reasons, some people get them just because they like them. It's the same with other changes that they make on the bike. I don't know why certain people keep talking about it like a King headset is going to make them ride faster or something. It's weird. Why did you switch to CK if your Cane Creek was working fine? Did you install it yourself? If not, did you take it back to the LBS that did? Did you talk to anybody at CK? You gotta give more context.
