The true difference is the shelf life and durability of the Cyalume brand. The packaging protects the chemical light sticks from sunlight, which can result in decreased effectiveness, and overall the quality of the stick's construction is better. My aunt works for the military, and brings me military grade glowsticks, the pink last 12 hours, blue 24, orange 38, and blue I lost in my room, and it was still glowing (obviously not very bright, but would light my face) after almost three weeks, obviously you can't go out and buy those, but still, just to let you know.

store ability is a big difference. the cheap ones do not perform if stored out of package and exposed to heat. while the milspec or cyanalum will.

A lot of the extra money you're paying for the Snaplights is the money you're paying for the Brand (and a bit more for the additional packaging and the marketing); I wouldn't be surprised if they both came from the same factory. God knows the chemistry is exactly the same, though it could have been reasonable to assume before the experiment started that the cheap glowsticks had their contents diluted with water, or something to that effect.

OK after 12 hours they look similar. Pity that you did not let us know when they started fading strongly and what was the difference between them both. Perhaps one kind faded after 15 hours and the other after 20 hours? This would make a difference .

forget walmart man, get some military surplus glow sticks. in my experience, you have two basic options with milsurps, 12 hour standard luminosity, and 4 hour intense luminosity. the basic white intense put off as much light as a 4 foot florescent bulb, standard is about the same as your expensive walmart lights. personally, i would really like to see you test out more military surplus items. possibly even get some genuine Russian mulsurp items and compare them to those found here in the states. thanks again for the quality content man.
