This seem to be truly honest review. I find it quite often here that if a product is given to a reviewer by the manufacturer, it tends to effect the scores in a way that favors the product, that's why I tend to not watch a review if that reviewer has not purchased the product. But this one is very honest.

I often wonder just how different a budget lens can be. The cheaper lens might be *just* good enough for some people. Thanks for the comparison.

Hi Matti, it's a really mixed bag between the Sony and the Yongnuo. What I do like is the Wide Angle 11mm where you can photograph some really nice subjects like a small Church, a small room etc etc. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Matti, well done. 😊.

Thanks. The Yongnuo is a mixed bag indeed.

Hi! Good comparison review! I bought the Yongnuo some months ago, and despite the rough edges, I`m pretty happy with the images it delivers. I have also discovered that the corner/edge-sharpnes improves a lot at closer distances, say between 20 to 100 cm, on par with my old manual 12mm Samyang (good corner sharpness stopped down a bit, terrible C.A) Love the aperture ring, very handy!! Worth the money? Absolutely, but if you have the budget, go for the Sony, of course!👍

Thanks. I agree, the YN 11mm is a good value and in many cases you can't even see its flaws.

Excellent review Matti, thank you very much ! I would choose the Sony because of the better image quality and the lower weight, though I do love an aperture ring ! Alternative a used Zeiss Touit Distagon 12mm 2.8 T* can be found cheap ! I do not think I would choose such a wide angle Lens for an APSC Camera, so my best choice would be the Sony 15mm 1.4 G Lens. Have a nice day 😊

The 15mm is sweet but not directly comparable to the 11mm. Thanks for sharing.
@cameraprepper79385 ай бұрын
@@mattisulanto I know, but as I mentioned, I do not think I will go wider than 15mm (22.5mm equivalent to full frame) for the APSC format, which also will be the widest anyway for most people in most situations, no matter which format of the sensor. For those that wants to go really wide, there are the excellent Venus Optics Laowa 9mm 2.8 Zero-D ! The two 11mm Lenses I suppose are most for vlogging users.

really appreciate this review. for some reasons the other reviews make it seem like the yongnuo is actually better.

I was just about to pull the trigger on the Yongnuo. As I checked the price again and there was a deal which I can pickup a Sony 11mm for not much more than the current YN sales. About USD310 vs USD281 and I of course went with the Sony. Hopefully I won’t regret this later as I really like the sun star of the Yongnuo.

Where did you find that deal?

I live in Sydney, JB HiFi had it on sales for a few days for AUD509. I joined their membership which gave me another AUD 10 discount so I ended up paid AUD499. It happened a JB HiFi store near me has stock so I just walked over and picked the lens up. The price is now back to AUD599, but if you live in Australia do check their price as they do special discount quite often over Australian holidays.

I have a Yongnuo 85mm f/1.8 for Z mount. It’s got really nice IQ and is tack sharp. I’m not sure the other lenses in their lineup are quite as good and they’re not so inexpensive that it’s worth the sacrifice in IQ. I’d like to see them keep improving, though, I think they have potential

Generally speaking wide angles are more difficult do design and manufacture than short telephoto lenses.

Hello! Thank you for the great video. Do you happen to know if the firmware update for this lens has improved the existing barrel distortion or corner sharpness issues?
@mattisulanto4 ай бұрын
Thanks. Unfortunately I don't know that. However, there is only so much a firmware can do if the hardware is not up to it.

Hi, Matti sir, thanks for your verdicts - But from my point of views = down side of sony is - there is no Aperture ring and remote - Focus and aperture control device , ? many thanks

Another point to consider is how lenses hold their value. If you sell the lens after 2 or 3 years then you're going to lose a lot more money on a budget third party lens.
