Madonna was a pioneer of the music video due to her debut coinciding with the beginning of MTV she knows how to use them to whip up controversy too. Bedtime story was at a point in her career where people felt she had gone too far with erotica and the sex book and she was trying a new softer direction. It was not a "total flop" but you're right compared to before it wasn't as successful.

Like rn he can't even come out with his music bc his label won't let him but if you look (bc there's been leaks) he has good versatile music-but taste and subjectivity. Someone once said the music he want to make is the music that his label won't let him or help him with-and that's very much true and even if they do it doesn't do "well" ofc and basically just gets skipped over.
