As a former event DJ myself, I must admit that no matter how in touch you are with the current music charts and the current music scene, it's extremely unpredictable and illogical at times, and things change very quickly! It's nearly impossible to predict which songs or artists are going to be big on the charts, and which are going to flop. When I was dee-jaying regularly, I used to sometimes stock up on 20 or 30 new singles that I thought were going to be huge hits. Most of them went nowhere on the charts, or peaked at much lower positions than I had expected. Some were by very big pop artists or hip-hop artists who had just recently had several big hits, but their latest singles ended up having no momentum. Meanwhile, I'd be at events getting requests for all kinds of songs that I never heard of in my life, even though I thought I was pretty much in tune with what was happening on the music scene. Songs way out of left field. And by the time I'd add some of those songs to my music library, nobody was requesting them anymore! LOL. It's a really crazy business.
@danubiasampaio703911 күн бұрын
Very interesting, I haven't heard a professional about all of that. It's amazing how fast we can change from one artist to another. Also, I feel like music never been so generic as nowadays.
@derekblaustein601311 күн бұрын
@@danubiasampaio7039 I totally agree with you about music being very generic. I think there are several reasons for that. One is because there seems to be a clear effort to merge different genres together. R&B and Hip-Hop sort of merged together to become one genre. Pop gets merged with dance music, country gets merged with hip-hop, pop is merged with country, hip-hop is merged with reggae, etc. In other 10 years it's all just going to be one genre of just POP MUSIC instead of 10 or 15 different genres. Music is also pretty much created by computer these days, and soon songs may be created entirely by A.I. The need for actual vocalists or musicians with talent is becoming a thing of the past. It's pretty sad, although I must confess there are some current songs that I do really love. My personal favorite is "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter which I think has a really strong old school flavor, while still also sounding modern and including Sabrina's unique vocals.
@danubiasampaio703910 күн бұрын
@@derekblaustein6013 Nice. It's funny how we diverge, I think Sabrina can't be more generic and I hate vintage/old school stuff. I agree about the electronic crap, I miss hearing instruments, that's one of the reasons I loved Beyonce's Cowboy Carter so much.

Most of these songs flopped almost immediately after released because they aren't pop enough for radioplay nor have catchy chorus to be used in shorts/tiktok. But I don't think these artists care too much about their albums flopping because they know the risk of straying from the pop music in favor of experimental music.
