Seems pretty straightforward to me: - The Odin 2 is more expensive since it's more capable. If you care about Switch emulation and want a more premium handheld experience then it seems like the obvious choice. - The RP5 is cheaper and has an OLED display, but it's less capable overall. If all you care about is emulating systems up to PS2 and GC, you find value in having an OLED display (I personally do), and you want a slightly more compact handheld, then it seems like the obvious choice to me. It's probably going to be a premium experience under those conditions, but that's currently just conjecture. Regardless, it remains to be seen how the RP5 actually stacks up as a handheld. We can of course infer some things based on its specs and knowledge of previous Retroid devices, but I think we're just better off waiting for people to get their hands on it and for reviews to come out. Because it might very well end up being totally not worth it after the inevitable price hike from the early bird special.
@DNAMobileGaming2 ай бұрын
You're going to find yourself tweaking the RP5 a lot for certain games to run unless you like 1x resolution all the time it isn't a device I recommend to anyone. Like you said it has an OLED that's the only thing going for it, otherwise the processor won't stack up against the ONE AND DONE Odin 2. I can pick up my Odin 2 and just play it (except Switch games need to be configured per some games still) heck I can play GOW2 PS2 at 3x resolution stable and it looks dam good especially hooked up to a big screen. My warning is that the RP6 OR Odin 3 will be around the corner and right now anyone willing to fall for this scam will be in for a loss.

Your S23 doesn't have proper performance modes and thermal throttles, even though GameCube/Wii emulation aren't too heavily demanding on the cpu to make your board hot the Odin 2 is set to use the clocks it needs to properly. Heck I have even played 4 player on it without any slow downs, also you can't compare the Steam Deck to an Arm based, energy efficient, low lower consuming device it's not the same.

I think it comes down to user preference. But keeping in mind that any phone with that chip set would cost up to at the very least double that price, and the performance on certain consoles is definitely better on the Odin 2 (PS2 seemed much more stable and consistent when I compared at least). As for the lacking systems, there's been emulators being developed for those too, mainly Cemu and Winlator, which are working great so far

I'll add a slight correction to the burn-in issue, it does happen, but it can certainly be prevented. Using the screen on a smart brightness setting (smartphones have a sensor near the upper speaker that triggers the screen's brightness change to accommodate for the ambient light) or just bring it down a notch if such option is not available on the device in question. Also what contributes to it is a static image, like whatsapp/instagram/youtube, their gui elements that always remain on the same screen space while you browse these apps all day long will be seen pretty vividly in those same spots on a bright background. Long story short, if you, who reads this comment, have a burn-in issues with every oled/amoled device you carry, it's not the panel that is at fault, you're just a gadget junkie and couldn't let go of it even if your life depended on it :D

I think the Odin 2 and 2 Mini offer future proofing to some extent, and they give the benefit of "set it and forget it". Aside from Switch level emulation, you're probably not gonna have to tinker to get the emulators you want running well, and you have headroom to go up. For me, the benefit is compatibility and performance on the Odin 2 Mini. Battery life is a bit to be desired but that's because I owned the Odin 2 Pro at some point which had phenomenal battery life. If you're not gonna want gamecube and PS2 at higher than native res and 3DS at about native res with tweaking than you will probably be served better by the cheaper options out there. Retroid 5 and Mini are gonna be great options too.

For example, my RG556 has been a pleasant surprise in that it even runs some (lighter) Switch games quite well. Really wasn’t expecting that for the price, which makes it an insane value. The Odin 2 is definitely not expensive, but it is huge if we’re being honest. The RP5 is just a couple mm wider than the PS Vita or the RP4, also smaller than a Switch Lite. For me, that makes it very practical. While you are right, the 865 is old and not even close to the Odin 2 in performance, my experience with the 855 makes me confident it will play most PS2, GC and 3DS as well as light Switch games. Idk about the Wii U tho, the emulator is in heavy development as of now, but I‘d expect it not to be able to do much of that. Also OLEDs are nice, but a good LCD is also great, just as you mention.

The only reason I won't pull the trigger on Odins is because there are way too many reports of input lag with them, especially the regular Odin 2. There might be one video saying it, like you said, but too many online written reports means the chances are too high for disappointment. Imagine paying more money for the "better value" and being immediately disappointed with D-pad and face button performance.

So regarding the input lag people are referring to, it's a matter of one person saying they saw an issue then mentally someone else said the same thing. However ANDROID has some input latency in general and maybe that's what people are referring to, but I personally with the multiple different Odin devices I own whether it's the 1 Pro, Mini, Odin 2 Base, have not noticed any latency/lag whatever the case my be. Mind you the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro had faulty springs, the Flip had faulty Hinges, the 3 had faulty buttons and yet people keep buying these when they have hardware issues rather than firmware related issues? It makes no sense to me to buy a Retroid any further but that's my opinions everyone can do whatever they want.

Wait...i'ts really cheap Sure if u compare this to steamdeck it odin 2 might feels expensive, but if u compare it to regular android phone it's really cheap
@DNAMobileGaming2 ай бұрын
@nawsih848 well you can't compare this to a Steam Deck Android is arm based which is like comparing apples to oranges. There's absolutely no comparison in the Steam Deck for many reasons including this.

If either of these sre too expensive you jeed to work instead of playing video games.... Or just use your phone

The Odin 1 has Linux and Windows… just saying!
@DNAMobileGaming2 ай бұрын
Ha I always forget about that I wanted to try dual booting windows on it as Taki shared something about this but at the time the Odin 1 was better than my 3+ so I never bothered.

Wait the Odin 1 has Linux support? With everything working?

since these things have reached the price point of professional game consoles, they're all too expensive in my eyes
@DNAMobileGaming2 ай бұрын
What do you mean by professional game consoles? These are as professional as they get. If you mean perform as well as a gaming pc or pc handheld, then still not comparable.
@ScrubsWasTaken2 ай бұрын
its a good thing everyone else doesnt have your eyes. The Nintendo switch is the same price as a base Odin 2 and has worse performance

if an $80 difference is a make or break for people, i really don't think they should be getting any handheld. Use that money for food, rent and your basic needs.

You probably didn't watch it all as what's nonsense about it? Me being right? Me having experience with all of these handhelds to know better to try and warn others not to waste their money on outdated garbage compared to what we can get for $80 more that is 10x better? But you do you and I'll continue to try to help others make good decisions, hope you enjoy your ewaste

Why does anyone care about Linux? Portmaster. That's why I care about it. I also would much rather have access to the file system without going through the fun of rooting the device. I've CFW every single DS device I have and a Wii-U, and I can't say it was a lot of fun except for the DSi, which was easy and the last 3DS I did the CFW on, because the process is crazy simple now. I haven't gotten around to rooting the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro.
@DNAMobileGaming2 ай бұрын
Well if you care then why hasn't anyone tried working on Linux harder for the Odin 2? I know very little about Linux except how to Google how to use it or basic sudo this and sudo that but honestly Android does so well I personally never needed to use it. Except for 3DS testing for the DNA Duo.

Need linux? Just buy something from anbernic lineup. Waaaay cheaper and runs linux natively without dancing around it. But android is much energy efficient than linux and has more energysaving scripts.
