@@plankera Which is why you splash out on the luxury ones lol. But on serious note, The only time it's worth spending good paper on an HDMI cable is if you need length, As the pricier long ones will be well constructed and keep the signal integrity in tact. Or if you going super long just get HDMI-to-Cat converter kit and use ethernet cables to make up the distance.

that is what SDI is for, you can buy sending and receiving units for it and will be able to go lengths of up to 300+ foot while hdmi is limited to 50 foot max and likely has noticeable degradation just getting that much distance.

I do some home studio music production, and in my experience Audio Technica is a really good value brand. I've got the m20x headphones, which I think cost me about $70, and I've got very little to complain about. I did end up replacing the pads recently because the old pleather was cracking, and also the stock ones where a bit small and resulted in my earlobes contacting the speaker cover bit, and the size adjustment I've found a little loose, so over time it always ends up expanding itself bigger than I want it, but overall I'd definitely recommend Audio Technica to anyone looking for a quality product without a studio pricetag.

@joe No amount of EQ will make your crappy $5 headphones more clear when more than one frequency is playing at once. I've tried multiple EQ presets designed by people with the entire range of my existing headphones and none of them objectively improve things like being able to pick out small details during busy sections. I absolutely agree EQ can be great from bringing a shitty tuned pair of earphones, headphones or speakers from something that needs to be in the trash to actually decent and fun to listen to, and sometimes improve the sound enough to easily surpass the competition in the same and above price class, but you're not getting the fidelity and clarity from something like a pair of planar headphones. Never mind if someone prefers open backed headphones for things like talking on voice or just for the soundstage, no earphones will ever be able to give you that with any EQ.
@RAHelllord
@RAHelllord Жыл бұрын
@joe I used a bunch of autoeq profiles, if you want to try your hand at making something better I do have a pair of Shure SE215, which appear to have measurements from at least oratory1990. But there is more to drivers than just absolute volume of isolated frequencies, if you play two or more sine waves at once and the result is distorted that is not a problem you can eq out. Stuff like that happens more often with cheaper drivers and spending a little more can go a long way in that department. I still wouldn't recommend just buying the most expensive ones though.

And don’t forget, when shopping for a good commercial access point, you want your entire network to be MESH. Just one SSID with seamless handoff from one node to the next as you roam your house/business. Trust me. I learned the hard way. IMO having a bunch of “wifi range extenders” is practically useless if they all have different SSIDs, and/or your connection drops for a moment when handoff occurs.

I find smart plugs insanely useful for monitoring power draw, albeit roughly but accurately enough. If your electricity bill is super high and you're curious what's causing high bills, you can plug devices into the smart plugs and check current power draw and historical data. I have them all over, and found multiple culprits like an old DVD player I was using for audio on my PC via optical cable was perpetually pulling 40W even when idle and doing nothing, just powered on - so this week I replaced that with some bookshelf monitor speakers that only pull 6W now. I found my fridge was also quite bad, as is a mini NAS box (40W), it all adds up. Smart plugs are amazing for finding these things.

for fridges, make sure the doors are sealed tightly (no lint or frosting on the door frames) and make sure the fridge is in a ventilated place. the fridge works by compressing air so that its hot, then put it thru a radiator to remove the heat (because its hotter than ambient now) so when the air decompresses it becomes ridiculously cold (because the air has dumped all the energy when it was compressed). if the fridge is in a ventilated place, the ambient temperature around them will be much lower so the compressor works more efficiently and spends less time cooling down the inside. also a top door box freezer is more efficient if you need to store lots of frozen items because when you open them doors most of the cold stay inside since hot air cannot sink below cold air edit: most fridges and ac dont compress air but a special type of refrigerant gas that can do a better job than regular air. i used air as an easier way to explain. if the refrigerant level is low it can also affect compressor efficiencty so make sure your ac and fridges gets checked every 3-5 years

I bought a pair of Audio Technica's on sale for something like $180(I don't remember the model number) more than ten years ago. I have had to re-solder and rebuild the right earpiece because I am absolutely careless with them and had a terrible habit of dropping them off my desk. There is an extra length of wire sticking out because the stock was simply too short to work with, and I wasn't in the mood to screw with any cable management. The earpiece has two holes drilled in where I am using zip ties to hold a zip tie skeleton reinforcement, and two years ago one of the studs holding the speaker broke, and I have't sat down to try to ghetto repair that. I probably won't, I'll probably just buy a pair. OLED is a terrible choice for a PC monitor because burn in is still and always will be a thing. I am using a AORUS FV43U until I can get a miniled 43in in 144hz, which will probably be about five years or so. Using a pair of Onkyo bookshelf speakers running through a Dayton tube amplifier that is getting signals from an ASUS Essence STX that is still going strong after ten years or so. For OLED, remember that burn-in is a thing. If you want OLED (I get it, you like a nice image, I like it too) you should cheap out on it. Get a last year's model, or even two years old, and one of the cheaper products in the range. You'll use them for about the same amount of time as a more expensive model that may burn in slower, but still not proportionally to the cost of the cheaper ones. Also, if you will have the lights on, or the sun out, while watching, OLED isn't too bright and the LCD backlight will not be as apparent in ambient lighting, so go for LCD in that case. Mini LED TVs should be a great choice.

I have one of these beautiful upside down tarantula routers. This one heats up after a few minutes when you turn it off but this tp link router has to be turned off once the internet is fully on. And oh boy, it can run over 60 pages in 2 minutes but that is about the time it starts to heat up to the point you have to turn it off. A tiny gaming mouse device as they are called in Icelandic is connected to another router and can work efficiently as a main gaming router for over 24 hours if its near cold air and the air flows on top of it. That router was bought specifically to serve the famous Netflix router which has 4 antenna the same size of a 34 cm paper. That other option makes more sense nowadays so a password is used which makes sure the internet at home no longer stays offline for days. Thanks for this video! Kind regards from Ásgeir in Iceland.

For networking equipment especially wireless one, I am partially agree to that. It is true, the expensive one like Ubiquity, Mikrotik, Ruckus etc. give better quality, feature such as QoS, bandwidth control etc., but for signal coverage, you can't beat the swarm of cheap mesh setup especially for place with wide dimension and only cover few user. We can't judge by how good an Access Point to transmit signal, but we need to count how good our device transmit signal too. For such setup, it is for sure not cheap. But by just buying those expensive upside down tarantula Access Point and plug it to your router and hope for the best, that's not the most effective solution to speed up your WiFi.

Yah, my dad bought a remote plug maybe 20+ years ago (with a dedicated 1-button remote) to control a lamp across the room from the couch and his chair. He even jerry-rigged a _much_ bigger relay onto the side of it (that makes an _extremely_ satisfying CLUNK!) after the original one inside broke. These days, it controls a cool-looking retro-industrial lamp my stepmom gave him. 🙂

I can totally recommend buying a quality set of headphones if you're anyone who uses them a lot. Other than the audio quality being slightly better, the real difference to me is the comfort. A good set of headphones feel like nothing at all and making using them a painless experience. I used to use some generic gaming headset back in the day and my head would always be a bit sore after using it for many hours, but once I invested in a nice headset that was over $250, I could wear it pretty much all day and never have any pain or sore spots on my head or ears. $250 is a lot to spend for many people, but I've had the same headset for almost 8 years now it it's still fantastic and worth every penny.

In my case, i have a I think $70 pair of headphones that was causing pain on my earlobes, so I replaced the pads for like $5, and now the only pain is pimples from the grease buildup of my ears being covered for hours on end. It boggles my mind how expensive mobile phones are these days. I remember when I got the Xperia X1 which was one of the first big screen android phones, and it was NZ$999 (about US$499 at the time) which made it the most expensive Android on the market at the time. The first iPhone 3G was about the same price when I bought one back in 2008 when they released. These days a top end phone is about NZ$2000-2300 for the base model...which jumps a lot with more storage. Thats an expensive tech that really shouldn't be so expensive...

Also love the fact that you're saying don't cheap out on audio gear, while also recommending a mic that (at least the cheaper version) costs a little over half what I paid for my cheapest mic... But you're absolutely right, audio gear is worth spending the money to get the right stuff. Smartphones, when you buying cheap phone, it lasts around 2 years, it has shitty warranty, bad tech support, bad quality, it lags, ads in interface, and can even blow up and catch fire, if that is really crap And each 2 years you buy second one, third When buying more expensive, is can last 3-4 or even more years, if you use it carefully oc Better support, more features Generally better, and in that time span on 4 years it is cheaper than cheap phone I know, cheap phones can last longer if you use it carefully, but i am talking in general

Even with all of that a cheap phone can be 20% of the price of a flagship phone. Buying a new cheap phone every 2 years is still way less than a flagship that lasts 4 years. Preventing E-waste is the only incentive imo.

The best place is the midrange imo. You can avoid the drawbacks of cheap phones (no updates, scarce features, slow), while also having a good enough processor for casual daily use, a large battery to go with the less power-hungry processor for good battery life, and even flagship level features (if you go with upper midrange/used). All while avoiding the insane amounts of money you need to spend on flagships, especially high-end models.
