1) Desk: is it the right size and height for your needs. Height adjust is nice but most people work at one height and never need to change afterwards. Ideally you'll only need to make this purchase once. 2) PC specs: Is your PC able to handle your work-type/workload. Insufficient specs and you end up waiting around for your PC to catch up. 3) Monitor/s: The nature of your work will determine your monitor specs but this is how you make use of your PC specs. 4) Chair: Your comfort is huge for productivity. The more comfortable you are the less you'll be moving around wasting time and the better you can focus. IMO if you haven't nailed down these 4 yet save your money until you do. Everything else provides much less productivity returns.

would ad a laptop stand if your working on one, a vertical stand if you already have a monitor, to use it as local pc when in home, the space youll save is insane. Could go for the other type to, if you prefer to ad the laptop screen. Theres some pretty and cheap stands out there. For those with more than one device (like a laptop for work and a PC) that have the need to use the same monitor you could also ad a switcher, it also swaps the perifericals to the other device with one button so its incredibly practical if you need to change from one device to another.

On chairs, I've owned almost all of the most recommended and expensive office chairs, Aeron, Cosm, Embody, Gesture... I'm a bigger guy, 6'3 250 with longer arms, so even with the Gesture that actually fit me unlike the Herman Millers, I ended up slouching. I since then have had a custom bench made for me, so I can sit in a variety of different positions without a backrest. I haven't looked back since. If I wanted to only relax at my desk it might be different, but for work and certain games you really want to be engaged, so active sitting is superior.

Nice set up. but looks more like a show case not an actual work place. Clean desk increases productivity for sure. Good job. Not many realize the whole room/office set up becomes more costly than the system itself. Then add IT tech support etc. ;-) For cable managements, you can also purchase a cheap PVC "cable trunking" tubes or "cord hider" tubes, cut them in needed sizes, stick them under the desk (with double tapes or screws). And I am always told not to tidy up the cables too much because they create electro magnetic field - snakes can burn down a studio, fire up an office, or blow up your precious newly cleaned up desktop system. So keep them lose and scattered, and cover up with a huge ... blockage of sort.

I am probably incredibly alone in that, but I despise minimal Desk setups with a Passion, since I have a fear of large rooms. This is a thing, you can look that up. Having minimalistic space actually creeps me the heck out, so I really enjoy my Desk crammy, but with near optimal space usage. :D But from my personal experience I can add to the Video that there is one thing I found out had improved my setup like literally nothing else before it: A Laptop. Having a secondary, completely own Machine besides my main PC is handy for SOO many things. It may not be entirely relatable when you never tried it, but hot damn, as a QA Tester and Editor this is coming in clutch in many situations.

As someone who is very happy with their setup: I recommend a 3-6 monitor display. Don’t buy expensive monitors, you can get good viewsonic for around 100-150. Give up hope on a chair. I’m 6’5 275lb and a chair dosnt exist that fits me. Scarlet 2i2 with Shure7mSB. Recommend Sundara or 1990pro. This is the only thing besides the computer itself I recommend splurging on because these products last a long time and the audio community is trustworthy. Larger keyboard the better with a wrist rest. Large mousepad. I like lighter mouses. All of this cheap. Lots of toys. I like to have my desk covered in puzzle cubes, Lego, and other toys.

I'm filtering through a lot of office/desk setup videos to help get an idea of what I want. Your review of the chair was great and I truly could use some lumbar support for when I'm working. I also need bigger screens or to learn to zoom in more because I lean forward due to my vision. This then defeats the purpose of any lumbar support (not that my current chair has any anyways). The whole fad with the racer chairs are aesthetic, but I'm not the right body type for them, they're hella expensive, and don't seem to offer the support functions a regular office chair provides. I didn't think I wanted monitor arms as well, but the more I think about it, especially as I'm going to need to share my space with two laptops (the one my job lets me use and the other is my personal computer), the more flexibility will be important. Having a large monitor on an arm that I can bring forward to help my vision would be nice. Your office is really beautiful, thank you for sharing this! And lastly, if you made it through this ramble (sorry about that, lol), where did you get the wood panels? Not sure I could install something similar in my apartment without damaging the walls, but they look really nice.

Use a keyboard that has multiple BT connections so that you can change between devices with one button. I have one that does 3 devices that I use for my tab s9 Ultra, my surface book and my zenbook duo. My other mouse and keyboard are solely used for my main gaming/work pc. I have a laptop on either side of my desk with my tablet under my main monitors. Tier one: My zfold phone is mounted beside the tablet because it can also be accessed with the mouse and keyboard when on the tablet input. Tier two: My main monitor is an ultrawide with a regular monitor beisde it that spans the entirety of my desk length raised up on an add on table riser for monitors (which I use for more space as well). Tier 3: I have a samsung smart monitor mounted above the main monitors. I use these 5 devices while having plenty of space for writing in note pads or having open books etc. I also have several audio devices. I have an audio interface for my main microphone or when I want to use a digital amp, I have bose 700 noise cancelling headphones, I have airpod pros, and a gaming headset with mic. I also have 5" studio monitors (that are closer to 12" in height). I can wirelessly use most of these devices as external screens for any of my 3 computers and all my devices have dex mode in case I need an additional computer for something. I also have a VR occulus headset that I put on the top of my pc. I have an audio switch that allows me to press a button and switch the actual cable hookups of the studio monitors to my record player that is in my closet but for the other devices the speakers are also bluetooth. This may sound like overkill but each device has its own place and use and I do use them all frequently. I am a computer programmer and I typically use about 5 programs that are always open when programmign a study. If I am away I can have an easy 3-4 monitor setup since my laptop has a second screen built in above the keyboards and I can use my phone and tablet as screens.

Looks very nice! I'm also curious what shelves you're using to the right of the desk.
@JonImperial Жыл бұрын
It’s a ladder shelf from Amazon. The one I have is discontinued but here’s a similar one amzn.to/3tNWqfQ

Need help: Looking for premium, minimalistic, design-centric computer speakers. Not the typical ‘box’ style oft shown in the modern desktop setup videos (e.g. audio engine, Kanto). Cost is not a major factor, willing to pay $~800. My office life is based off Teams/Slack/Zoom calls & limited music listening. I don’t need an audiophile reference speakers. I want a modern design show-piece! Wood, carbon-fiber, oddly shaped? Recommendations?

What exactly is that set of wood panels/sticks? I seen TECH TESSERACT has the same ones and so does this one very small youtuber who did a similar video a while back. It has a damn LED bar within it. What is that? It looks like a cheap DIY that anyone could do but Idk the name.

Matter... Just wondering with all the desksetups with the light bar, where does the webcam go ? The lightbar is taking up prime position ?

Which is your desk mat? I think it's called that way, but basically what you have under your mouse/keyboard. It's look nice! I just bought something similar like the grovemade desk mat but my cats love it and they are destroying it scratching😅

Dam that's nice. I've been looking at my setup thinking that "Ahh well, I can survive with it..." and haven't done anything. I'm gonna make a plan now for upgrades and then slowly work towards the goal!
@JonImperial Жыл бұрын
Yes! Build slow! That way you don’t waste money getting things you don’t actually need. 😊
@danielh12345 Жыл бұрын
Slow way is absolutely the way! Personally I wanted good speakers, built some Overnight Sensation Speakers, veneered them and finished them in a way I liked, made matching stands. Next I realised I wanted more light, bought a xiaomi lightbar. Now I have quite some cables from the audio gear on the desk. Gonna make a deskshelf to my personal taste. The ones online I either don't like or find too expensive. I'd rather buy a new tool for those prices and make it myself learning as I go. I now know all my deskshelf needs because I haven't had one for a while now haha. Gonna be fun!
