I feel like a DISCLAIMER is needed for Hilish fish 🐟. It has an insane amount of bones, little ones and large ones. People have been hospitalised by this fish. Those tiny bones get easily stuck, it must be eaten by hand. BUT the aroma that you get from Hilish mas is unique. You can tell it's been cooked as soon as you enter the door. For me it's the tastiest fish in the world. Alhamdulillah. Especially my mum's taken on it. Allahumma baarik

Question for you Latif. Why are they so few authentic Bengali restaurants in the UK? I know they have catered to British needs over the last 40 years but neglected their own people! There has to be a huge demand surely? Just like there are Pakistani restaurants every where. Our Bengali neighbours ocassionally send over some of their food like te lentil pakoras etc during Ramadan or Eid and is fantastic but not available to us anywhere
@LatifsInspired2 күн бұрын
Yes. It’s because the British Indian Restaurant (BIR) is I think more profitable and easier than traditional Bengali cooking however things are changing and palette is wiser so I think we will see new innovations in the industry. Well I hope so 🤞

I suppose the reason restaurants and takeaways don't push the Bangladeshi aspect is because your average punter isn't going to realise it's the "Indian" food they like...that being said, a lot of places have dropped 'India' from their name in the last few decades, instead choosing to use words that imply it's Indian food even though technically it might not be.

I’m actually half Pakistani and half Bangladeshi and have had both foods very often. Honestly I don’t actually enjoy Bengali food a lot I feel like they use too much oil and way too much spices the curries are very overpowering but I do feel like they make good fish curries probably because that’s their main food. I love that dhoy (sweet yoghurt) tho
