Reality check - MRI= 40-50 minutes laying on a narrow board in a freezing room (mri machines need to be cooled) strapped with a cage on your head, and left alone in a ballistic testing scenario (sounds like a firing range up close) and you cannot move or scratch for almost an hour and not to mention that you are in a cylinder just like being trapped in a crumbled building /earthquake = thats just AWESOME I can't wait to get it done again. She makes it sound so nice.

i'm just here incase anybody reading is having a scan done soon and needs calming down because i wanna say i've always had really bad anxiety and i did freak out when i was walking in but once i lay down and got in there, it was actually oddly relaxing. mine lasted about 20 minutes and i was kinda sad when it was over because i'd gone into a full on meditative state and i was listening to the sounds of the machine (even though i usually hate loud noises) because they're rhythmic. i couldn't stop thinking about how cool it'd be to use those sounds in a track and the view i could see from the mirror would make for a cool album cover to go with it. the view is actually really cool, it's weird to see your legs like that when you're laying down but it's a good kinda weird, especially when you're completely relaxed at the time. so yeah, i'd say just try to let your mind wander in a good way if you're worried, try to get into the rhythm of the machine if you enjoy music. it probably helps that i disassociate throughout the day a lot though and i've kinda just learnt how to do that before things get too bad without realising i'm doing it, which is great but it's a pain when it starts to get out of control

Hello. I actually suffer from anxiety disorder and know al too well about panic attacks, claustrophobia, you name it. I actually had my first MRI done today and I have to say, it's really not all that bad. It may seem scary at first but just remember that you can stop at anytime. I would also suggest to simply close your eyes wear ear plugs or listen to music if ur allowed. Also, take some deep breaths. If you begin to think about panicking and already envision yourself trying to crawl out and escape, pause right there. Before you hit the panic button just remember that through your breathing you can diffuse the anxiety and the thoughts. Take deep breaths with ur stomach and hold ur breaths then release.

I had an MRI done this past week of my brain. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Obviously if you're afraid of small spaces you should tell them BEFOREHAND, because they may recommend/send you to a place with an open MRI machine. Don't wait until you get to your appointment. Of course doing research beforehand will help prepare you to know what to expect. The machine is very loud and makes vibrations. They will give you earphones that probably have pre-set music playing. Truth be told you can't really hear the music anyway, the machine is so loud it overpowers it. The technician will talk to you and make sure you're doing ok. I lucked out and had the sweetest tech in the world. I had to do the MRI twice, with/without contrast...they had to give me contrast through an IV. I mean it wasn't the most pleasant test ever, but if you just breathe and relax it will all be over before you even know it.

What really helped me on my last scan was a mirror above my head which showed me the outside area, as I am slightly clostraphobic. My previous scans did not have this, so I did get anxious, it really helps too if the nurse talks to you through headphones at intervalls. Make sure you tell the nurses that you are anxious and get them to provide all that is available to ease your anxiety, they are not going in YOU are! There are also open scanners that are much better for sufferers and you can see all that is around you.

I had an MRI today..for my brain. It was horrendous. I'm not usually claustrophobic or at least didn't think I was. But I'm a bigger person and I barely fit in it. It squished my arms to my chest/stomach which made me feel like I was suffocating even worse. I had to go for an hour total, the last 15 mins being with contrast in my IV. In the first 45 mins, I had to hit the "panic button" twice and make them let me out for a min. They offered to let me quit, but I knew I would just have to come back. So I kept going. But I literally had to use every ounce of mental strength I have to stay in there and not hyperventilate or scream. Lots of irrational thoughts like "maybe risking a brain tumor staying there and killing me wouldn't be so bad" and "I don't care if I never fins out why I started having seizures. I don't need to know" went thru my head. I wasn't offered head phones and the cage on my head had no mirror. Was told no one could come back with me, so no loved one there either. Not gonna lie, just watching this video...I have a little anxiety reaction looking at the machine. Like my breathing quickens and my heart races. I'm never doing that again. That's all I can say. You'd think I would feel proud of myself or good because it's over and I did it. But I just feel mentally drained and scarred. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel better about it.

I had an MRI done for my rotator cuff. They warned me that it was noisy and told me I could bring a CD to distract me while being scanned. It was a hellish experience due to the racket the machine made. It was like having your head in a bucket with people banging hammers and construction equipment whirring all around you with all kinds of deep groans and clanking - unbelievable! It took about 40 minutes but the music did help. When they got me out of the machine I looked back at it as I walked away and I saw that the manufacturers had named it, and another sitting next to it, similar to an automobile maker such Buick Wildcat. This was named Harmony and the other was called Melody. I thought those names were, at best, a bad joke or at worst stupidly cruel.

meditation and visualization. I pictured the noises as a train I was riding in as the wheels clacked over the tracks. They had a fan blowing gently on my head/face, and I concentrated on the slight movement of the air on my face - like a gentle breeze. I came very close to falling asleep, and if asked how long it took, it only felt like about 15 minutes, not the 45 or so it actually took.

I had MRI in 1987 when I was 10, back then MRI chimes were 8 "bongs" during preview scan and a continuous tap-tap like a woodpecker would do, for something like 8 minutes for each scan, it was so bearable that they could even diffuse music in the room and I could listen without headphones, when I came out the doctor congratulated with me since I was the first of my age in his center going through MRI without sedation ;-D

I had an MRI earlier today 09/06/2019. It was very loud as described but this facility placed a headset on me and had a local radio station playing OUTSTANDING distraction. Even with the music playing it was still quite loud. If you are the smallest bit claustrophobic you may wind up using the panic ball which is in one hand and only needs to be squeezed. Good Luck. Lasted about 20-25 minutes to complete.

I just had mine with and without contrast and it took under an hour. If you don't move or panic the pictures will be clear and no repeats will be necessary. If they don't put two little pillows by your head inside the helmet thing ask them to bc it really prevents movement and blocks out some noise. Not gonna lie it's sooo tight in there. At first I was shocked I'm not claustrophobic but shit it's tight in there. Just try to think about anything but what's going on and make a tune or song outta the noises it makes it helps. Overall it isn't that bad but it's definitely not pleasant.

MRI is a lot like radar. Both send out pulses of radio light and look for an echo. Radio is pretty good at traveling through solid objects, so you can do things like look at the inside of a raincloud and find the parts that have the most and biggest raindrops. The problem with radar is that it really only works for big things. People are too small, it's not possible to focus radio waves well enough to see organs and blood vessels and the parts doctors are interested in. So MRI has a clever solution. Strong magnetic fields change how atoms respond to radio waves (the "magnetic resonance" effect). MRI can't focus the radio waves, but it can "tune" your body by changing its magnetic field. And with some fancy math it can draw a picture that shows which parts are responding to the radio signal. The good thing is this is very gentle. The magnet is only as strong as a few neodymium magnets (the "super-magnet" kind), and radio waves don't hurt living things. You won't even feel it. The one bad thing is it can be very loud. Electromagnets make a buzzing or humming sound when they produce a changing magnetic field. (This is why transformers hum.) Since the MRI makes a strong field that changes quickly, it's about as loud as a motorcycle or a locomotive engine. You'll probably need to wear earplugs or noise-blocking earmuffs or both so that it doesn't hurt your ears. At the start of scanning there's often a knocking sound. Then the exact scanning sound depends on what kind of pictures the machine is taking. I think a lot of them sound like a giant printer or air compressor, but there are some beeps and buzzes too. This video has a bunch of examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZLbZXVrqd11pdE

Mine was almost 3 hours long and I had two panic attacks because I was sweating to death and couldn't move a muscle. I felt trapped and I would rather eat a month old withered cactus than do that agian. I had to redo the whole scan half-way through because I couldn't take it anymore and was litterally crying my eyes out waiting for it to be over. When I got out, my back was *drenched* in sweat and I was shaking. I have severe claustrophobia. I thought I would atleast be able to watch a movie but nope, because my whole back had to be scanned I was stuck fully in the machine. It was so surreal and felt like a nightmare. I remember staring blankly at the white ceiling that was perched just a few inches from my face while the machine buzzed wildly in my ears. It was so loud that my ears started to become numb to the sound and ring. I was hyperventilating and panicking because my muscles began to cramp and I felt like jumping out of the machine. But I knew if I did I would have to go back in there. Occasionally, the person handing the mri scanner would check in on me to see if I was okay, but only did so every 30 minutes. I remember feeling the heat build on my head and upper back as I stared up, the light gleaming from below the machine. I had wanted more than ever to move, to breath without worrying that I was moving too much. *Never agian,* will I take my free movement for granted. All of this for my crooked and twisted back. I am hoping this train-wreck of a back issue will come to an end in late july, when I will have my back surgery as treatment for severe scoliosis. It will be a long recovery process, but I pray it's worth it. To mri machines, *never agian.*

I had a brain MRI a week ago and actually I found it fascinating! Being an engineer and somewhat a technology freak I know this machine can not harm me. Yes, the noises are VERY loud and it was bad because my earplus didn't really sit properly. However I was rewarded by being allowed to take a look at the pictures of my own brain later, after explaining that I am really a tech freak. VE R Y C O O L! However I understand that for some people - mainly children - this can be very frightening, but with a cool explenation like the one in this video, any 8 year old will have a great story to tell to his friends! Well done!

I nearly cried when I was about to go into the room (especially when I stripped all my clothing), but the nurses were very nice and the headphones I was given to block out the MRI noise played good music to listen to. You can still hear the noises the machine makes, but I was past being scared and after a while I almost fell asleep. Its okay to be nervous. Getting something like that done is a scary experience, especially if there's a possibility that they might find something wrong. I wish you the best of luck with your MRI and I hope your results come back completely clear as well.

If an MRI can give you the answer to the health worries it is worth it, I am as claustrophobic as one can imagine. Nver use an elevator if there are stairs, up to 19 floors that is). MRI gave me good results so I taught myself to grin and bear it.

I can't help how my mind and body reacted, and it has affected me ever since. I KNOW I am not the only one that has had the same experience. @Claudia-fm7eq

I had an MRI of my cervical spine today. I was living all my life thinking I am claustrophobic. Until today... Before the test I was trembing like hell and my heart beat was so fast. When the radiologist took me on the bed and ready to fix my head it s when I freaked out. I said I would like not to block my head. He said that s not possible. I felt a despair at that moment and burst into crying. Then I managed to be still and got inside the tunell. It s when I calmed down immediately, I don t even know why. Then the machine started to make awful sounds on which I started to concentrate and find a rhythm to sing with it😂 I was thinking I am at a rave party, then I was finding some of the noises and vibrations like the washing machine. I even started to feel to laugh at some moment when I was concentrating over the noises of the machine. In the same time I was thanking in my mind to all the piece of my body, I was thanking to the machine and to the radiologist for everything. The final moment was when the machine stopped to make the noises for 2-3 minutes and I was started to have some negative thoughts that I m stuck inside and nobody will take me out of it, with my head blocked there. But then the bed started to move me out of the tunnel and the radiologist was there. What I learnt from this experience about me is that I m not claustrophobic like I thought, but I am in fact mentally unstable. I burst into tears at the end of the exam. The worst part for me was before and after it😢not during

is it like painfully loud or do the earplugs make it quite because I don't feel like laying in a circle for an hour with a sound as loud as a bomb. If the sound is equivalent to a guns firing sound its not bad but if its the the same as a monster truck its annoying
@dougfriendly7676
@dougfriendly7676 3 жыл бұрын
I hate the machine because I'm claustrophobic but the loud sound didn't seem any worse than the garbage truck that passes next to my house. And it isn't consistent. It comes and goes, there is as much silence as there is loud noise. The earplugs and/or headphones playing music of your choice help A LOT.

I had one an hour ago it wasn’t scary it was fine I put the mask on and yes they were noises but each noise had to do with the magnets taking the picture I think some people go in with a basic fear and some of the responses that I have heard or just a little on the naughty side. I think for most people it’s an experience that you have you finish you’re done

@kwag4
@kwag4 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. It will rip the braces off of your teeth. You will need to have them removed by your orthodontist first, and they will put them back on after.
@poppypeppa0186
@poppypeppa0186 4 жыл бұрын
@kwag4 No it really depends on your Braces some are not Magnetic but even then there is a chance that the Braces Heat up and cause Burns. For mine it was fine even when they said when i feel anything Pulling or a Heating sensation i should call for them. But what could be a problem too is when you have a Brain scan then the Picture could be disrupted speak with your Physician and Orthodontist because sometimes it’s necessary to remove your appliance but not Always! But they never get Ripped out what is wrong with you

To me, the noise the bed makes when it moves sounds like a rollercoaster moving up a hill. Also, the cushions on either side of the head would also help a really small child keep their head still. I have hydrocephalus, and I've had CT scans and MRIs pretty much every year for the first 34 years of my life. Over the past couple of years, I've been having headaches on the shunt side, and no one seems to have any answers.
