Apologies for the dodgy filming and editing on this one - it doesn't quite do the parcel justice. Big thanks to the person who sent it, and I hope others find the contents useful for ideas for their own preps.

On the compass, the red part of the needle points to the North. Hold it flat on your palm and let the needle settle and then turn the compass till the N lines up with the red part and that is it. Now you know where the North is.

9:56 - That is how it is used, the big gold thing is a pot stand. take off the shiny plate bit, unfold the wire handle and the silver plate can be moved sideways. Unscrew the cap and this is where you pour the fuel (normally methylated spirits) into to about halfway up, sit it inside the gold thing and light the fuel (Meth's burns with a near invisible flame, so take care) Use as that for normal cooking / boiling and if you need to do a simmer, open the silver plate to the side and place it on top. To extinguish the flame, again use the shiny thing, closing it up and placing it over the flame. let it cool down before you replace the screw cap, as it has an O ring in, which will melt. Have a look online for a Trangia stove video - as that is what this stove is - to see it in action and how to use it. Be interesting to see how well that charger works

I do not know what budget you are working to, But everything I purchase is balanced between value and cost, some items do the job perfectly well and can be cheap, whilst other items really are " you get what you pay for " and your need can be widely different if intending to stay at your home or the rather drastic " bugging out " Spend good money on water filtration and any medical items. Water....is your primary concern beyond all else. If all infrastructure/power fails, you will have a fair bit of water in the system ( house not flat ) that you could drain, but you really will need a prepared supply. The Military equation is 2 litres per person per day, that is what we worked to in the army, if somewhere temperate like the UK, and that is perfectly fine for someone bunkering down in a house, you can easily store a months worth of water in normal store bought 5 litre containers in a cool corner somewhere......Have a stock of purification tablets and understand the way they are used, but water is fine to stock for half a year. You can go for longer term supply if you want, that means setting up water butts in the garden, charcoal filters, filtration systems. Depends on your environment, finances and need.....but they are quite fun projects to do. Medical....is your secondary but often forgotten about subject. If you have any underlying medical concerns, this needs to be taken into account if the situation is going to be long term, how you deal with that is up to you, building up a stock if possible or looking at natural alternatives ( that all medicines are made from ) A good medical kit or 2 ( or 3 ) placed where you can reach them and find them in the dark, containing a comprehensive selection of plasters, dressings, bandages, butterfly clips, tape, trauma dressings, tourniquet and BURNS KIT for immediate use.......and another kit containing general health items like tooth repair, ear infections, salves and creams ,painkillers, Aspirin, charcoal tablets/upset stomach, electrolytes etc......A very extensive subject and Booking yourself to go on a medical skills course is worth its weight in gold, St Johns ambulance do free courses I believe, but if you are going to spend money, then a medical course is one of those things that are worth it.

Thanks so much for the helpful advice - so many aspects to prepping to think about but the ones you mention are definitely priorities. Will provide updates as I gather more bits 🙂

Some very good advice there. St Johns only do free courses if you can get a group of people (I think it was 12) and a venue, but they don't do them for a single person. I looked and the 3 day course was going for around the £350 mark from all the UK providers
