Spectacular insights into the working life of people and the slow death of the ocean liners await. This industry developed in 1969. There are over 70 companies between Bhatiara and Sitakunda. About 200,000 people live directly from scrapping ships. Around 40 percent of the world's decommissioned ocean-going vessels are currently being dismantled. Sales in 2015 are estimated to be around $ 900 million.

It's curious that they start scraping by the stern and let the piece on the sea. I suppose it's for loose weight and the rest can float and they pull easier from the beach.

Была инфа, что ценное оборудование попадает на местный рынок. Дорогостоящее оборудование продаётся по каналам опять же судовладельцам.

Is it possible these workers left their rural work that could be just as hazardous? Maybe that work environment they left was one of such low pay that even food was difficult to come by, for them and family? And now making enough money to be able to send it back therefore sacrificing themselves for the betterment of their family? Lastly do they know that there can be many, many waiting in line to take their place or -- heaven forbid -- shipbreaking going to another country that will simply use workers the same way?
