I went to lots like that. However, I also went to "The Computer Shopper Show" at Olympia conference centre in London. There they used to drive trucks into the venue and sell things like new printers from the back of them at about 75% of normal prices. I recall ringing a friend from a call box to ask if he was interested in me getting him a 4MByte SIM for a bargain £80. Of course he was.

In the mid 1970s there was a computer you could play Tic-tac-toe against at an exhibition I went to. Aww man, this makes me so nostalgic for the early days when I was into headphone audio, we met in hotels just like this, 30 people talking about all the arcane headphone audio stuff, listening to old reel-to-reels. I also attended in 2019 and remember meeting you at that event. You nailed it with your description as well, but the primary thing I like about it is that everyone is so happy to be there and it creates very positive energy. Sure, it's about nostalgic feelings and stuff, but it's not like a lot of other tech conferences that you might go to for work reasons and are a bit more mundane. At the VCF festivals, everyone is in their element and wants to talk and just hang out, answer questions and loving every moment of it. It creates a great atmosphere that adds to the nostalgia in a way that watching videos on KZbin or playing with emulators and old components doesn't do. Unfortunately I couldn't make it up this year, but might try again in 2022. Maybe with a table as well.

I absolutely admire Clint's love for old hardware. I grew up with all of these classic computers when they were new! My first computer was a Tandy CoCo Model 1, with that horrible chiclet keyboard, and a WHOPPING 4K of RAM!! Woohoo!! But I was exposed to so much during the late 70's through the 80's, and my most loved, and to this day, most missed computer setup was my ole Atari 520ST! I had it upgraded to 4Megs of RAM, 2 external 720k 3.5" floppy drives, 2 SCSI 240MB Micropolis HDD's in an XT case, built and customized by a good friend I've known for 35 years, both Color and Monochrome monitors, with a monitor switcher, a customized sound system (also designed and built by that same friend) with independent volume controls for all sorts of devices, an Epson 24 pin Dot Matrix printer, and a Yamaha MIDI keyboard! (And hundreds of 3.5" floppies with, um, obtained software on them!) Man, those were the days, and watching Clint's videos brings back so many great memories!

Had to hit pause a lot just to see all of the amazing stuff! Partially reminded me of the computer shows I used to go to when I was in high school with hardware and software for miles. I do miss those so! Thanks for the vid!

My dad worked for NSA when they were working heavily with SGI. This is right about the time that the Nintendo-64 came out, something like '97, so I knew about them from all the Nintendo Power updates. They had an unclassified event where they brought a semi-trailer that was customized top-to-bottom to be a mobile SGI demo. Dad brought me on base to come see it. It was such an experience. SGI blue and purple everywhere. They had things like a bouncing cube, like the screen-saver, only each face of the cube had a different video feed on it, and they were rendering all of it on the fly. That experience stuck with me.

This reminds me of going to Hamfests in the 90's, about half the tables had random computer hardware, and most had at least one current machine running Doom at the table. The Indiana state fairgrounds (Indianapolis) had a good one in the middle of winter indoors we would drive to every year. Thinking back, a lot of stuff probably was vintage back to the 70's on those tables. I think with your video LGR and other you tubers, this Vintage Computer fest will become even bigger event in the coming years. Now I want to go and see this show!

20 years ago I throw out some things and my brother begged me to get other things. I regret both decisions. I threw out my 386 and 486 dx2 PCs and I gave my brother my commodore 64 with all its accessories, my MSX computer and my 3DO with all its games! Not to mention I threw out my 34" TV.

I sold my Dad my 486, because he didn't have a real computer. They donated it to a charity!! I still have some games that will only play on a 486! Yeah, like when your Mom threw away all of your comic books? Oh, boy!

Same. When the first Pentiums introduced, all those basic AT's became garbage. Too young to be worth anything and too old to be of serious use. I don't even remember how many systems I have owned, but it would be worth a small fortune today. I kept my 5155, PS/2 and MSX. Bought a 486 clone again.

Ah, I remember going to computer shows back in the 80's. Those were the main thing I always looked forward to. I don't think I missed many of them that were held in my area. I built an 8-bit CPM computer based on a Xerox 820-II motherboard. It had two 8 inch floppy disks. Sigh. I feel old...

Hi Clint. I have a few Acorn Archimedes (various models). They are all ex-school machines. Although they are PAL machines, I’d be more than happy to send one your way, just to say thank-you for all the LGR happiness your channel has given me over the years. If there’s some way I can send you specs/details that’s best for you, just say the word.

In post pandemic times if anyone finds themselfes near Germany between Christmas and New Years you should DEFINETLY get a ticket to the congress. Loads of nerds and other cool folk in a massive convention center doing lots of cool stuff. :)

Microcenter is the definition of "civilization" for nerds now. It used to be RadioShack (RIP), but Microcenter stepped in to fill the void in our hearts when RadioShack turned into a cellphone store and then a memory.

Welcome to the Exhibitor fold, Clint! One of my favourite things about getting to be an Exhibitor is the calm in the morning before the show starts, getting to walk around and say hi to old vendor and artist friends, and the tense moments when you hear the announcement that the convention is open to the public... It's been so long, I miss it even in spite of my pandemic anxiety. I hope someday maybe you can come up to Canada and hang at a Canadian con!

Remember when you can buy a 50 pack of 3.5 floppies real cheap? lol Seeing all those vintage computers brought back a lot of nostalgia feels. I also love that you brought the Star NX-2420 cause I got the same model from Craigslist around 14 years ago :3

14:30 That's my first Windows based computer!!! I had that same Packard Bell 386 with Windows 3.11 for Workgroups and DOS 5 or 6, can't remember. Before that I had an Apple IIe. I can't believe my old Packard Bell is still out there kicking. I'm going to have to find one to restore now.

It feels so good to see Atari ST models in these videos. 10:04 YES! Empire Deluxe! What a game! (also the previous and later versions). 13:28 GBA Championship Basketball, aka Two-on-Two ! Only the best basketball game ever created, including the actual sport! (slightly subjective) Great video, thank you for sharing. I just wish we had this type of festivals here.
