8:08 that was the John Deere x60. It had over 200 horse power and was designed in the early 60s and discontinued in the late 60s. One thing that really impresses me is the shear size of this thing, the tires and the width of the axle. Imagine this thing was built like the 4020s were, this tractor would still be used on big enough farms for field work to the day, and imagine how useful these things would be to farmers new to the industry that bought one.

That 4960 on tracks is still up in northeast Iowa. It’s been returned to factory stock but it’s still out there. Belongs to the uncle of one of our former employees! Still super low-houred too!

Interesting video my favorite series of John Deere is the 7010 series. I would love to have a late model 2002 2003 John Deere 7810 with a autoquad transmission and a 741 loader on it. The ultimate livestock and haying tractor in my opinion.

Back in the early 1980’s,in Lake Charles , La. If my memory is right. There were 12 test trucks. Ten had the 6466,and two had the 6619 engines. The drivers loved them. They ran short routes pulling dump trailers. There were 2 trucks running out of the Memphis parts depot that were equipped with the 8855 V8 engine. I did hear that the drivers loved the torque of these. The high torque allowed them to climb most inclines without having to down shifting.

The JD 4000 was not experimental but a production model for 3 years with the same engine as a 4020 but much lighter and designed for higher field speeds.
@BlackearthexcavationandtilingАй бұрын
@BDOutdoors-2 4000 was a 3020 rear end without sheetmetal and a 4020 front end ... the 4000 experimentals scene here are not normal '4000s' - they are one off models ...deere does this a lot on experimentals, for example the experimental S680s all had 9870 decals
@trevorn9381Ай бұрын
@@Blackearthexcavationandtiling That experimental 4000 looks like a 4030 with a 3020 engine in it. Shame they didn't put that tractor into production.

The 4000 you are talking about was in the 20 series line not 30 as pictured and never produced and the 4520 was produced but that was an experimental cab not put in production. I also owned a 20 series 4000

I have heard that before, but I don't understand the statement, as there are many things wrong with the 20 series tractors that were corrected as the later series continued - in fact the early 4020s were heavily updated towards the later serial numbers. Overall, yes a 4020 was a good tractor, an improvement over the 4010 and then the 4230 was improved over the 4020 ... we have owned 20, 30. 50, 55 series, and we have worked on the later ones less than the early ones, meaning each was improved as it went, that's how equipment evolves. So I'm not sure why you feel this way unless you had a bad one off experience
