Thank you for recommending helmets. About two years ago, Paul Bertorelli (AV Web) did a video about this, and he changed my perception. Everyone should wear a helmet for the reason you pointed out.

I like it! Due to the airports around Southern California. I’m seriously buying one!
That engine looks like a (fully built) predator 420... Cool plane!

Would love details on your helmet model, attached headset(glued or drilled attach), visor option & motorcycle comm connection. Sources for each, model numbers, ballpark prices, etc. would really help as a good starting point for figuring out what to get. Thank you!!! Really looking forward to seeing performance specs on new a/c.

So we're kinda seeing an ultralight Zenith 103???
@DanFrederiksen4 ай бұрын
It's nice what can be done within part 103 but they tend to be along the Cub 1930s design philosophy which is understandable as it plays to what you can make yourself, weld some tube and drape with cloth but they end up being quite complex with a lot of tubes and struts and ribs. How about instead making it like a glider, all carbon fiber, one go. Fuselage as one piece and because it's double curved then just a thin shell of carbon fiber will be rigid (except for the canopy opening where you'll need a bit of reinforcement). It's a little awkward to make a single piece inside a closed mold but worth it to not have to bond two sides which is very labor intensive. wing can be a sleeve on a mold or in a mold and a spar inside. Maybe a rib or two or sprayfoam fill. Maybe bolt the wing skin to the spar to avoid glue issues and the spar sticking into the plane with a pin so they can just be taken off. Other than looking cool it will have great aerodynamics so it can fly forever on 5gallon. It might exceed the range of a Cessna 172 with 10x as much fuel. They are only allowed to fly 55kts but even with the modest motor you have there, theoretically, hypothetically, in an emergency, it might double or triple that speed :) The plane might be so good that you can sell it as an LSA able to use the full speed. The ballistic parachute is a very nice touch. If there is weight to spare maybe ADS-B in and out and a radio. Ideally in a single combined "EFIS". It can have different wheel options for different missions. With a low wing the wheels can be mounted to the wing spar. Spring metal, very short and simple. Lancair IV-P has very skinny tube gear and it weighs a literal ton. So 200kg should be a walk in the park. Skinny airless wheels might be an interesting experiment for outback if the gear arm can flex, it might be plenty to cope with gravel or hillsides and would be less airdrag and weight. There is a polish glider named something like Gecko that weighs around 68kg, full high performance beautiful glider with long wings and instrumentation and a part 103 doesn't need that long wings. Because it's so light with a bit of angle of attack it should be able to do 24kts stall in ground effect.

No one would pay the amount of money a plane like this would cost
@DanFrederiksen4 ай бұрын
@@michaelspunich7273 why would it be expensive? try to appreciate the amount of labor that could be saved and carbon fiber is not that expensive. Like 20$ per square meter in common thickness. You drape cloth, you make it wet, aint no thang. If you want to be fancy you vacuum bag it.

NTSB doesn't investigate ultralight crashes but I would like to know how this Badland Ultralight crashed. Video is here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/inm0iGWjbd2nkKM

It was very hot that day and windy. He took off and had a very high angle of attack and noticed he wasn't going to clear the trees and made a right turn and stalled and kind of went into a partial spin and nose-dived into the ground. buddy of mine was there and witnessed this firsthand I live around the corner from this field. Hes lucky to be alive. Completely pilot error in my opinion. Very short field coupled with it being hot and windy he made bad decision to fly that day.

Love the thumbnail and the video but you don't need a license anyway that's actually asking for permission and conducting illegal activity.
