You can make round tubes. Heating is not necessary, just removal of the paper inside. It's a little difficult to make them perfectly round, and then it's harder to attach flat things like wings and tail surfaces, but round is arguable more aerodynamic. Looks cool too. Square is a bit easier to cut hatches for and situate things inside. Try both, see what you think.

@maj0411 Sure, I will work that into a video soon. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a small supply of 1mm titanium plate which I fabricate into an "L-bend" and drill that for the motor screws. This is stuck into the fuselage or wing with 3M heavy duty foam mounting tape. You'll see in the video coming. I've done it with aluminum too. It works exceptionally well for all my aircraft so far. If you roll the foam with a rolling pin, it compresses the foam somewhat. This will allow you to bend the foam without it breaking or wrinkling. I have built a few round and rounded fuselages. It works for making paradihedrals on wings tips too.

Good video. I did test comparison between your fuse method and the vinyl that I am using. The foam fuse is 38.5 grams per foot, mine is 98.5 grams per foot. I think I might give up the durability of the vinyl for the weight savings. Thanks-

i cut a shallow V shape to get a nice tight, small radius curve, then hot glue after bending. also i pour boiling water in if necessary to help it bend.

I find that before you bend the foam at the half inch mark for the square tube,just run a piza cutter down the middle of the half inch strip,and it will bend much easier.Thanx for a very good vidio.

Hot glue for quick bond and no-stress joints, white gorilla glue for firm bonds. See my recent video on pretaping foamboard for more info on that, and the tape source. As long as there is tape and paper on the outside radius the foam will not break when bent. Don't worry about the ripples. They will mostly smooth out upon bending the board.

I have once, and other guys have. In my opinion it adds more weight than is justified by the strength gain. The standard construction is plenty strong for normal and aerobatic flights. I suppose if you were going to crash all the time, maybe it would be worth it.

Isopropyl Alcohol can also be used to release Hot Glue. :)

Does this foam bend well when heated? Would it be possible to heat and mold it around a round tube to make a round fuselage? Would there be a significant aerodynamic advantage to a round or tapered round fuselage?

Hi nice work, I watch your other videos and I'am learning different ways to build. I got some foamboard at THE DOLLAR STORE and it has slight waves in it. It is ADAMS white foamboard and the outsides peel off easy. If I try to bend it into a wing or fuse will it break or just bend? I have been using blue foam from Lowe's and sometimes it breaks. I score it where I want to bend it. What glue is best for this white foamboard? One more thing. Where do you buy your thin colored tape? Thanks

I think you could, it would just take some practice to make it nice and round.

Readi-Board (aka Dollar Tree foamboard) can be peeled with no effort at all. Most other foamboards are not so easy.
