Experimenting with 3D models from Revit on Apple Vision Pro

I'm running Revit on Windows 11, which is running on Parallels on a Macbook Pro, which is all mirrored to the Apple Vision Pro. The .usdz files are natively running on Apple Vision Pro and it is very fluid. I needed SimLab to export the .usdz file from Revit, you can do a trial before forking over $199. Not sure if that's yearly or just a one-time purchase, I haven't purchased it yet.

It's quite promising! At first I tried to load the entire building and it choked, so the best I could do was about 1000 sq ft at a time.

Bro I've been checking on updates to this workflow all the time, thanks for making the vid. I'd much prefer to own a Meta Quest than a Vision Pro, but wasn't gonna buy either til I knew if they supported this workflow. Questions: 1. Can you pin the model in real space and walk around it, so as to project a proposed model over real world existing conditions? 2. Do you have a Meta Quest and know if it supports opening models natively (GLB/USDZ)? 3. And further, does Simlab export to GLB as well? 4. Does Simlab export linked models or only your content?

I actually want to pick up a Quest 3 to see the difference. I think Enscape works with that but not the Vision Pro. At the moment I haven’t figured out a way to get into the model. I can only view it from the outside. I REALLY want to pin it in an open parking lot and walk around the floor of the virtual building. I’m going to keep trying different things until I can do something along those lines. SimLab exports whatever you see in the 3D view, so linked stuff and things in your own model. I wonder if it would export CAD underlay’s like a site plan….haven’t tried yet.

@@theelectricaldepartment Good to know on all fronts. I think the big hurdle right now is that the Quest doesn't natively have a file browser. Sideloading is well documented so it's not that it'd be a problem, but finding a viewing app is scarce. Recent Reddit research suggests Open Brush as it imports GLB and has passthrough support. Any experience with that? PS SimLab looks like it has a standalone GLTF exporter apparently.

How are you running a Revit on a Window screen inside the Vision Pro?

Ha it’s very convoluted…I have Parallels on a Mac running Windows 11, which in turn runs Revit. Then I have that whole thing mirrored to the Vision.

Yea I have and actually will be putting out a video about why this isn’t quite ready for productive use yet, unless you’re in a very particular situation. I had my expectations pretty low considering Autodesk had very limited Mac support, so it’s understandable why we are where we are.
