Very nice idea, can you do a video on how you do it with a list of materials used/needed?...Simon

This is brilliant! Great idea and it looked liked you were enjoying yourself. Forget 'Intercity' that was more 'Intercontinental'. You've inspired me to give this a go at some point. Ross

Thanks Ross. The Class 43 was just the first train I grabbed off the shelf. I say , go for it.

Nah, Hovermotion beat us both to it! It is pretty easy to do. I just watched a few vids on the subject, got the software and painted a piece of wood.

Commonly called green screen. It is the blending of a video and a background (in this case, a still photo)

so now you can have a model railroad, placed in any area of the world, at any time of the day with any weather effect you want, totally cool. that I want to see more of, please

Yep, pretty much Sparky. The German trains can travel through the Alps, the English ones through the country side etc. The next attempt will be to try and get a starry night to work but not hopeful on that one

its an interesting idea Bear, However wouldn't it mean not having a normal backdrop for when your not filming and just enjoying playing trains? Cheers, Michael

Thought of that Michael. The green screen is just a 1000mm x 300mm piece of 3mm masonite that I painted and it just slips down around the edge of the layout as needed and then lifted out. I will still have to make something "non virtual" one day, but this is fun.
