I think the ball is just for hitting on the club. If you are doing a drill, you don't want to have to chase after your ball every time. A normal swing for practice and it only goes 5/10 feet? Sounds good to me

Getting Fitted always helps. Starter clubs. Wilson and Callaway both have good beginner sets. I'd always buy a putter that feels nice (separate from the set)
