I had the good fortune to be selected for Hanks Teach the Teacher series probably 20 years ago when he was working with Tiger. I was the last student that day of filming. He did this same exact drill with me and had me hitting towering draws with my irons in minutes. Behind us were 30 instructors from across the country who paid to take his course. No pressure, ha! To finish the lesson, he said “it’s against my better judgement to have us go to driver right now but let’s give it a try.” I’m assuming he didn’t want me to lose the feel with a longer club but the result was the same. I was nearly hitting the ball over the net at the far end of the range. No joke, went from hitting low cuts 280 to high draws 320-330 that day. Of course I lost the feel within a couple rounds but am so glad I found this video bc THIS IS IT. Hanks one of the best.

I'm a slicer myself, not using any pro teacher advise i figured this out over time it was my hands not turning over leaving the club face wide open. Hank's drills and explanations as to why things happen is legendary. Wish I knew this or went to someone a lot sooner. Great video.

I’m sitting in the golf course parking lot lot typing this. I am also a casual 30 year golfer. I’ve had a nasty slice the whole time. I’m getting back into golf again and I found these videos. I must admit, I was laughing through most of this, especially when the student gives a chuckle about halfway through the video that says “there might be an old man getting a club over his head”. But I digress, I went back to the range today and tried what this guys said to do and like that guy, I hit the first one right down the middle, 250 yards. Whole bucket, 80% were going right down the middle. I was hitting my 5 wood 250 yards by the end of the bucket. I felt it too, like the guys says at the end. Wow, this guy knows what he’s talking about!

I watched this video today, I've watched a lot of vids about fixing a slice. Of the many drills shown, I chose to try changing my hand position as described and literally on the first shot, it changed everything for me. I'm astonished. I tried it with each club in my bag. More consistent ball strike, slice is gone (can even go a little left) and I'm able to make contact with my 5iron which has always been hard for me. It's just one small, yet big change, and there's more I could work on, but the distance gained, along with confidence gained is literally a game changer for me. Thank you!!

Best video I’ve ever seen on slicing. Been out the last couple of days once at the range and once on the course. It’s changed my concept completely and im no longer slicing anything. If anything my mis hits are all bad hooks and that is only happening because i didn’t swing to the right fielder or had too tight a grip. Everything that I struggled with was fixed in this lesson! I can’t thank you enough for me changing my thinking about the swing! Now instead of baby fades with no power going 180 I’m ripping power drives with thunder contact going 225 dead straight. I got a few that went 245 but I’m sure the distance will improve with time and practice.

Just start with slowing everything down. Slow back swing and down let gravity do the work. Build back up speed when you get muscle memory built back up. Sacrifice distance for accuracy.

Hank, this video is the best! I'm not a consistent slicer. Mine are mostly straight to baby draws. I think is a new player like me some of the concepts you were told when you first start out give you a false impression of what's supposed to be happening. It's very hard to comprehend how an inside out club path with a closed club face results in a straight shot. When a coach tells you to imagine a hammer to the nail you want to have your face square hitting it straight through. I've been trying to do that for a year with nothing but a slice to show for it. Going to take these concepts to the range today and very excited thank you

One thing I’ve noticed when I teach people this fundamental is that they don’t prioritize the grip change in their mind , so they constantly go back to the old grip , the teacher needs to communicate to the student that this won’t work unless the grip change is permanent , I understand if someone has been doing something the wrong way for 40 years , I still think that the teacher needs to really focus on the grip and let the student know that they need time train themselves to set the grip correctly first before each swing

Does this happen to you, though? You're at the lesson. Your coach tells you what to do, and you do it, and everything clicks. I'm hitting beautiful drives for 240 - 260 yards. I'm pumped. I go to the range, I practice to try to incorporate the lesson into my muscle memory. I go to the course, and everything falls apart. I cannot remember a damn thing. I can barely swing and connect with the ball. Every drive has enough slice that, if I had enough speed on the ball, it would come back to hit me on the back of my head.
