How To Maintain Your Trangia Alcohol Stove

- Remove the rubber gasket from the lid
- Scour the burner cup, lid, and simmer ring to remove any residue. - Ensure that all of the jet holes along the top ring of the burner are clear and open. If required, use a piece of steel wire or a sewing needle to remove foreign material from the holes
- Rinse thoroughly with water
- Wipe dry, and then allow the burner cup to dry for 24 hours to ensure the interior cotton wick dries completely
- Replace the rubber gasket back into the lid
- Test the burner with a small amount of fuel to ensure proper function

Easy enough! I love alcohol burners; the simplicity of the design, the easy maintenance, ease of setup/takedown, and lightweight+durable. They are pretty much bomb-proof. Only problem is, here in Canada it's tough to find ethanol, and when you do it's pretty pricey. I did end up finding some 'bioflame' fireplace fuel that's 95% ethanol 5% methanol at Canadian Tire and picked that up; even though it was a bit pricey, it should last a while. Thanks for the video, informative and to the point... Plus that little fuel bottle looks awesome! Do you guys sell that? I'd love to pick one up! Cheers! 💪🇨🇦👍

For outdoor use methanol based fuel (methyl hydate) is the way to go. Ethanol based fuels are more expensive, but can be found by looking for "denatured alcohol", "marine stove fuel", or "fondue fuel" - try hardware stores, marinas, or of course The Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co.

Do you know offhand if there's any aluminum inside the Trangia Fuel bottle or the spring mechanism inside the valve? I ask because I'd like to put bioethanol inside the Trangia fuel bottle, but bioethanol dissolves aluminum. Or so I heard?

Thanks. Is there a preferred fuel? That keeps the wick in the best shape? All about this external cleaning. I like using the Trudeau because of the gel. Have heard the blue dye hardens the wick. Know that denatured alcohol is cheaper fuel.

If you're in Canada, for outdoor use, methyl hydrate is the way to go. Half the price of denatured alcohol. If looking for indoor use, fondue fuel or marine stove fuel (ethanol based fuels) will be what you're after.
