I exclusively buy used. If you do your research and deal with reputable shops, you get amazing deals. I've purchased more than one watch that was merely months old, full warranty, and 40% below retail. Hard to imagine ever buying new again
@TheWatchBros2 ай бұрын
I buy a majority used at this point if my collecting as well. The pageantry of buying new, in general, isn’t worth the extra coin any longer. There are some pieces that I would appreciate the experience buying new tho. So there’s always still exceptions. But yes!… can save so much buying used. Thanks for sharing!!! - Jason

I totally agree with the 3k and under price point. I also use the 30% rule. I feel like if the watch needs to be serviced the 30% I saved was the gamble I took plus most service costs are 10-15% of the msrp so you still come out ahead! Another great video!

That's a great point. I also agree with that rule and a great reason for buying on grey for some of these watching in that $3k price range. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! - Jason

For the record, do you have any unstated sponsorships, promotional deals, or other vested interests with ANY particular watch brand(s), aside from your affiliate links? Or, is this channel entirely independent? Really enjoying the channel so far!
@TheWatchBros3 ай бұрын
@murphyman104 it’s completely independent. Everything is on my own dime and paid for out of my personal pocket. We do want to take sponsorships at some point, but would be looking for non watch related sponsors. We’d consider accessories, but only from a company we actually use and could stand behind. Thanks for supporting and watching… it means a lot! 👊 - Jason

too much hassle around used watches - unknown condition, frankensteins, fakes, stolen pieces, voided warranties, scammers... i'm happy paying retail to not have to deal wirh any of that.
@TheWatchBros3 ай бұрын
There def can be. That's why it's important to find a good dealer and work with them on finding the watch you want. But I agree, you don't have to deal with any of it when you buy retail and new. - Jason
@Joseph-gv3 ай бұрын
Interesting discussion! Personally I've only ever bought one used watch, as it was a model discontinued several years ago. Box & Papers are important to me, as I like to have the complete set. I would be open to buying used again in the future, especially given a lot of retail price increases in recent years. I would probably struggle to justify paying retail for a lot of brands now, given how much lower prices can be on the market. I wouldn't however pay over retail for anything at the moment. 100% agree on points about being very careful of the source and seller.
@TheWatchBros3 ай бұрын
Yeah, recent price hikes have made the used market more appealing for sure. Especially when you’re looking at 30% discounts on some pieces. I def understand box and papers being important to many collectors, it’s just not normally for me. I just want to wear the watch, but that’s my collecting style, and recognize and understand the value of box and papers - Jason
@Joseph-gv3 ай бұрын
@@TheWatchBros Yeah it's 100% a matter of personal preference, I do think the age of the watch also pays a big factor in the importance of box & papers. I'd be much less concerned about a vintage watch having no box & papers compared to a 2024 model, just as I would always wonder what's happened to cause them to go missing? That Tudor Oyster-date looks great, would be cool to see a future episode on the vintage pieces in your guys collections!
@TheWatchBros3 ай бұрын
Yeah, vintage is easier to go without. The modern stuff is usually because someone pieced out the box or a non-collector lost the box. I only have a few pieces right now, but I also think it would be cool to talk through what I have in more depth! - Jason

as cool as an unworn watch is... some brands are not worth it at retail. I mean you get literally the same thing except for branding at vastly different price range sometimes. Then you'll be surprised how much it drops when you check the secondary market. In the end, buy what you like. take your time except for an available rolex at retail.🤣

Yes, there are just some brands/watches that you can get at such a discount. It's a no-brainer for me, but I'm used to taking risks, so I understand if it's uncomfortable for others. - Jason

I would like to find a local ,trustworthy dealer to buy a good used watch. I am new to the Phoenix metro area. Any suggestions?
@TheWatchBros2 ай бұрын
I don’t know anyone in that area. But I know a few dealers. One of my favorites for mostly modern stuff is ectimepieces on IG. If you DM me on IG, I can usually help you source most things as well. For Vintage, I would look at watchand and IG. - Jason

I guess it depends on the use case. Similar analogy if i want to buy a car and I am expecting to drive approx 200k+ miles, then I'd prefer to buy brand new so that i have clean history, clean state of mind, and i get to enjoy it thoroughly for the 200k+ miles. If i buy it used, then i may not know the full story of the car's maintenance and i run some risk of breaking down the line...

Definitely. I think it's all situational and there are many pros to buying new from an AD or Boutique. We can get into those details more when we put together a dedicated video outlining the pros and cons. - Jason
