Beautiful people! Thank you! We have lots of these Poui trees in Jamaica...they add a glow to the streets when they're bloom! I always smile spontaneouly when I see them.

I was just given 2 little seedlings by a neighbour and planted them out on the weekend. 1 looks like it is doing well the other looks a bit shocked. I put some seasol solution on them. Far North Queensland Australia. Fingers crossed they'll grow :)

When I visited USA for the first time and saw this tree was totally amaised. I came from very cold and snowy Auastria, Europe. At that time was April but in Austria we had had lot of snow and to see such a bright yellow tree in a bloom was somehow very spetial to me.

These have to be the most beautiful trees I've ever seen and I always look forward to their blooming in the spring. I'm originally from Canada and when I moved to South Florida quite a while back, I first saw these trees when they'd been planted along the Florida Turnpike years ago. Every chance I had, I'd get in the car and drive up and down the turnpike to admire the irridescent yellow blooms, which take your breath away. In recent years, they were planted along US1 in Miami and make your bumper to bumper drive so much easier to tolerate... Thanks for the great video and photos. I just wish they had a "bonzai" Tab so I could have one in my condo :)

Loved this. I do wish I could find more information on leaves dropping and the tree’s cycle. I can’t tell if my tree is distressed or this is expected.

I used to live in Jupiter and had one of these “corkscrew” tabs at my house with the also very corky bark. It was beautiful. Now I’m in central FL and have a yellow tab but it’s bark and leaves are definitely different than the tabebuia caraiba. Would love to see a video on all the different tabs like all the yellows, pinks, lavenders, and their different growing habits.

Loved that I discovered your video. Can you tell me if this is the same beautiful tree that Trinidad has, which is called the Poui Trees in different colors. When I lived in Trinidad these were such amazing flowing trees. I'm now in FL. Thank you.

Hi! The beautiful Poui is a cousin the the yellow tab. Both trees are in the Genus tabebuia, but the Poui (rosea/ serratifoila varieties) are very uncommon here in South Florida. I wish the USDA would work to import them here, they are so pretty. 😀🪴

I just lost a great grandchild and wanted to plant a tree in his memory. His mother has picked the yellow tab. Any advicd because we live in the most northern part of Mississippi outside of memphis, TN.

Hi there, My deepest condolences on the loss of your great grandchild. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you and your family. I have lost close family members too and the pain is unimaginable. May the passage of time give you comfort and peace. I think your idea of planting a memorial tree is so beautiful. Since you live in Tennessee the yellow tab will not grow there, but an all time favorite tree of mine the Ginkgo Biloboa 'Autumn Glow', and this tree will do well in your hardiness zone. I also love for you that the symbolism the Ginkog conveys, it is a testament of time, this tree species has flourished from millions of years. The Ginkgo tree represents strength, resilience, and a connection to the past. And in the fall, the Ginkgo's leaves turn a brilliant golden yellow in a spectacular display that will blanket you all with the warmth and light your grandchild brought into the world. Each year, as you watch this tree grow and change, it will serve as a living reminder of their enduring spirit and the love you shared. I hope this helps in some small way; Michael Houle

Thanks for the great information! Question- are the flowers dropped toxic to dogs? Thanks!
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Жыл бұрын
Hi there, ASPCA doesn't show the tree as toxic per se, but I have heard that the essential oils from leaves can be toxic; so best to ask a vet. Hope this helps. 😀🪴

The fine people at Sperling’s Nursery in the Los Angeles area had a beautiful specimen in their garden-like nursery, which inspired me to buy a five gallon tree nearly twenty years ago. But they warned me that she’s a slow grower and to reach full size (theirs was about 25’) would take 25-30 years. They were right, but every year since maybe three years in the ground the spring show has been stunning. I rarely pruned for shape, instead using string, stakes and nearby trees to pull weeping branches into a more upright habit. I keep the roots covered in leaf litter and she gets afternoon shade from the strong west summer sun from a pair of California sycamores and a Liquidamber. She pairs nicely with some Crape Myrtle multi trunk trees. The grove arrangement keeps all the trees sheltered from the annual Santa Ana winds that blow in (40-70mph) through the mountain passes in October/November from Utah. A wonderful tree!
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN5 ай бұрын
Hi there! I am glad your tabs hold up well to those Santa Ana winds! Over here in Fla windstorms sometimes cause an issue with tipping. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!😀🪴

Hello! I have a yellow tab tree that I planted two years ago here in Orlando. She is about 9 feet tall right now. It is early March and she is already flowering. She does look a bit flat-top though (very wide but not much height, almost like an African Acacia tree) and I was wondering when and how to best prune her and to get her to fill out in the middle.
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN9 ай бұрын
Hi there, I would wait until summer to she how she fills out over the spring months. Then you can look to trim a few lower branches to encourage upper crown development.😀🪴
@DanielinLaTuna5 ай бұрын
Michael’s advice sounds very good. But in my experience, I would not prune (maybe in Florida it grows more aggressively?), but here in Southern California I put in a length of rebar (higher than the crown of the tree) and encourage the lateral branches to grow upwards by tying cotton strings from the top of the rebar to the branches. Kind of like a maypole, if you can visualize that!

Hi! I have a yellow tab that’s huge and seems very happy, but it has never flowered much. The last 5 years not a single flower! It’s never been distressed from a weed eater. Any suggestions? Thanks so much
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN8 ай бұрын
Hi! Does your tree enjoy a lot of full sun? They love tons of sun, but I have seen some also flower like crazy in part sun, so it may just be that your tree is producing its max. I have seen some that are explosive with 100% blooms and then just some 80 feet away another tab only has 50% blooms 😀🪴

@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN9 ай бұрын
Hi there, I am sorry they haven't bloomed. Need soe more info from you. Are they located in a sunny spot? How is your soil? Is it damp? is the trunk free of any mechanical damage ( like weedeater cuts at trunk base?) 😀🪴
@DanielinLaTuna5 ай бұрын
If it still has leaves after a mild winter, pull them all off. You don’t say how tall they are, but since, in my experience, they’re slow growing, I’m guessing you can reach the entire tree from the ground and maybe from a three-legged orchard ladder. My tree blooms heavily when it starts blooming ahead of the flush of leaves. A hallmark of both pink and yellow Tabs is flowers before leaves.

Can you bonsai this ?
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN7 ай бұрын
Hi there, not sure, but wow, it would be awesome if you could! 😀🪴
@DanielinLaTuna5 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t be surprised if you could. She’s a very slow grower (in Southern California), which leads me to believe that dwarfing is possible by heading back the new growth regularly. But I think it would be a tall bonsai (maybe 3-6’?). I have a fruitless mulberry tree in a small pot that I keep very small (in the ground these trees can get pretty weedy - growing well beyond what looks nice!) by pruning hard three or four times a year.
