Very nice. You mentioned sampling your own synths - it's worth noting Disting Ex has a autosampler mode that will trigger and sample other synths across any interval range, with velcocity multisampling. So no need to stick with only manually sampling drums - it's actually less work to just run the autosampler for a few mintutes !

@@TheUnperson That one's really cool. Chevk out all the Plaits and Braids stuff too. There are ways of using them in Poly mode not available in the original modules. Poly FM is the latest in there too and really powerful.

You probably already know this (but maybe others don’t): if you put the OP1 into MIDI mode using the SHIFT+COM button combo, the 4 knobs will then send midi CCs (the buttons also), which is nice for further controlling stuff in a DAW. I must admit it’s most I use the OG OP1 for these days, as a small and very expensive midi keyboard, since I’m less and less enamoured with its house sound.
@TheUnperson
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that ~ thanks!! I’m not a huge fan of the sound either. I use it as a sampler mainly. Would looove an OP1 field but I’d rather have a car lol

@@TheUnperson Specifically regarding the 'hapi vs xylophone' set, that's a 24 bit set intended for the SD 6 Triggers mode. You would want to convert it to 16 bit for use with SD Multisample.

Very nice music, as always, Mr. Person. I was recently thinking about getting a Disting Mk.4, but then discovered the EX. I now have to get one! I gave a modest set up and there are a number of modules i found I need and the Disting covers all of those bases and so many more. I expect that it will educate me into which standalone modules I will need to get over time. I can see myself getting this and possibly a Mk.4 or two over time.. Have you tried the General CV? That seems like quite a genius little device too. Cheers!

Well, I had a shitty end of year. My sister passed away on the 18th of December. It made me think life's far too short, so I got myself a Disting Mk 4, a Disting EX and a MIDI breakout. I've got a bit of studying and playing to do now to see how I'm going to use them, but I'll definitely be using the Polyphonic algorithms a fair bit I think. Also the Granulator algo. They're definitely going to open up my system quite a lot. All I need now is some talent.

It's maybe not the ideal module for your first one. It can be quite menu-divey and complex. I think it's the perfect module to get when you already have couple :)

i have 3 disting ex's! its inbelievable what this module is capable of. if you can manage the second big screen for at least one of the modules ( what i did ) this module might be the most useful and greatest modules in all eurorack.......and if you dont mind menu stuff, off course....which will be way way easier with the second big screen. this lili damn thing does literally everything. OS the devoloper is very very dilligent with his updates.

Hi, do you have a tip on how to make the samples play as long as you hold the keyboard down on my keystep (as you seem to do in the vid)? I have sampled some System 100M pad (using the EX auto-sampler) and would like the notes to play as long as I hold the keys down, I suppose one needs some kind of looping on the sample but don't know how to achieve that ... :( with the Disting EX.

I wonder if there’s an internal envelope within that algorithm? If so, try increasing the sustain to maximum.

I have two Disting EX's and I thought I'd drop my unsolicited opinions in here :) I originally bought one early on in my Eurorack journey, to fill in the gaps in my system. It proved incredibly useful and let me discover what modules I needed next. As time went by, the firmware updated, and the Disting EX got better and better, evolving from a collection of utilities into a collection of fully fledged synth voices, granular sampler, looper, effects etc etc!! So I bought a second one that pretty much lives in "single" mode. My original one is usually in "dual" mode, and spends most of its time as a quantiser and Swiss army knife. If you don't have a specific need in your rack, but want to spice it up considerably in a small space, I would say that the Disting EX is an extremely good buy. If you have a specific need, DON'T get one. Get the module that you actually need. There is a down side to the Disting EX - it's fiddly to use. For me, I've lived with it for most of my Eurorack journey, and love it. I will never get rid of my two. Would I buy a third? No. That would be silly.

I don't follow Eurorack hardware that closely, but seems an obvious gap in the market for a poly/multitimbral sound module, just to pad out the expensive mono VCOs! Obviously there are other solutions - VSTs, software modular (VCV has had polyphony for a few years now), hardware polysynths etc, but having Eurorack format and CV etc is handy. Sounds good anyway!
@SomeOne-pd6vm
@SomeOne-pd6vm Жыл бұрын
I feel like polyphony doesn't make a whole ton of sense in euro. Anything I'd want to do polyphonically is a lot easier and more practical on more orthodox gear. With polyphony you don't tend to want to use super large and complex textures which is what eurorack is far better at.
@VirtualModular
@VirtualModular Жыл бұрын
@@SomeOne-pd6vm I know what you mean, if you have a very harmonically rich sound you won't play 10 notes at once because that would be a mess, but I use polyphony in every patch with VCV precisely to make large textures. In my case it's more of a pure sound design technique than playing chords, but for regular pads and stuff poly modular still makes sense. For example poly modulation, where every channel gets a different LFO for vibrato or filter mod. The effect is like playing each note of a chord on a separate monosynth, as opposed to a traditional polysynth where the pitch/filter mod is usually assigned globally to all voices. I've rambled a bit, hope that makes sense!
@ExpertSleepersLtd
@ExpertSleepersLtd Жыл бұрын
@@SomeOne-pd6vm Polyphony doesn't have to mean big chords everywhere. It can simply mean that your release tails don't get cut off. For example, I hear a lot of people using this mode with the 'soft piano' sample set, playing essentially monophonic parts, but each note gets to ring out as if you had the sustain pedal down on the piano.
