Excellent interview - really interesting to hear a musician reflect so deeply on how they approach a module. I can't wait to try out the NT

Looking forward to trying out the Kirbinator!

Will be so interested to hear what you make of it, as you are a DataBender master! (I can already guess you're going to suggest adding a "hold" feature for the buffer ;-)

three months! wow... you guys did really well to keep this under wraps haha not tried the Kirbinator yet... I am mainly a "drone artist" so would have to think how I get it to fit in great interview, thanks 👍

Thanks! I actually really like the Kirbinator on drones - I usually pipe the Dream Machine into it. Works nicely with glides down a fifth and an octave to fill out the sound - especially if you blur it out a bit with reverb.

@@doublewah thank you very much for your reply, Simon, I will give that a go 🙂👍

@@doublewah thank you so much for this tip, Simon my current monster drone patch = Attenuverter LFO 1 Dream Machine 1 LFO 2 Dream Machine 2 Granulator Kirbinator Chorus Reverb totally overindulgent, of course, but I love it as a lush background that I can play my guitar over cheers, andy

11:30 is that Koyaanisqatsi playing in the background ? How did you sequence that !!?
@doublewah15 күн бұрын
Good ears! It’s Opening by Phillip Glass, partly played by hand, but mostly sequenced from the disting mk4 midi player :-)

Love this! See you have the Teletype in the case. Is it connected to the NT thru i2c?
@doublewah3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I’ve actually not yet tried hooking up the NT via i2c to Teletype though I know it works. I’m always a bit wary of adding too much stuff onto the i2c bus because you have to keep the length of wires fairly short and I already have Just Friends on there. So for the moment I’m using good old fashioned patch cables. Note that now we have so many inputs, that’s much less of a restriction! That said, I will probably get it on the bus soon, because I used to have the EX on the bus and it was fun doing polyphonic sequencing from teletype.

@@doublewah Yes! Will be fantastic with the extra inputs on the NT. And I will most likely reach a limit to what I can do with i2c in my rack but have found it incredibly helpful being able to recall presets and algos on the EX through the Teletype. Will probably be less of an issue with the bigger screen but so cool to put the preset/algo command in the I-script when I build a scene on the Teletype. Would love to be able to do that with the NT once I get my hands on one.

Hey - can you connect the NT to the Push 3 standalone for use as an audio interface? Thank you Mr. Kirb.
@ExpertSleepersLtd3 ай бұрын
AFAIK the Push doesn't yet support external USB audio interfaces, but no doubt this is on Ableton's roadmap. If and when they add it, then the NT should work just fine.

Great video. What’s the deal with the Arvo Part soundtrack?
@ExpertSleepersLtd3 ай бұрын
All the music is from performances by Simon over the last couple of years. Some are at www.youtube.com/@wavetableedinburgh8815

@@ExpertSleepersLtd I’ll check that out. The Part versions sound lush.

Thanks! (And well spotted :-). I used to start my live set with Fur Alina played on the Push - with the first repeat dry, and the second repeat using MPE pressure to bring up the Kirbinator wet level so little stochastic sprinkles get added to the long spaces between notes.

Unfortunately it's not currently in a fit state for sharing, sorry! If I get time to tidy it up I might do that (but motivation to do so is not as high as it was because the NT version is already way waaaay better!)

I wish there were more NT demos on yt. Maybe I need to a) get an NT and b) make videos lol

That sounds like an excellent idea! Seriously though, there are some good things being posted on Instagram, and the Discord is quite active, if you want some more opinions before purchasing.
