Heavenly Blue morning glories are hybrids and will not produce blue flowers the next year. Instead, they will bloom into a smaller purple and white flower. I did get some pink blooms the third year after letting the second season's seeds fall to the ground.

It might be your neighbors’ seeds because I’ve grown the seeds over again and they haven’t changed color, the blue color is natural and is related to other wild species.

@@vernonfrance2974 Heavenly blue is Ipomoea Tricolor, the smaller ones might be Ipomoea Purpurea, check the stems to see if they are fuzzy, if not, interesting observation.

Thanks. Just bought morning glory seeds. I fell in love with this plant when I lived in a different home 10 years ago, my neighbor's fence that divided our homes had beautiful morning glories. She also planted the moon flower plant not too far from the morning glories. My current house has morning glories that the prev owner planted facing west and hardly get any good sun, you can see a few little leaves and flowers trying their best to grow. Maybe I'll transplant them. Thanks for the great info!

I see some confuse Jimson weed/Datura for moonflower vine. Datura grows all over here, (NC) . Fortunately we never had a problem with the dogs or horses bothering it. Most animals have a keen sense to avoid toxic plants. Morning glories are like weeds here too. Moon flower vines are a little more work to sprout but worth it for night gardens.

if you have any squirrels or chipmunks, they LOVE morning glories! they stripped the leaves off of my pot of them last year. so this year Im making cages around them with 1/4" hardware cloth til they get some height to them. My whole yard will be covered in hardware cloth tents , might work, they eat sprouts of everything!

Hello, My morning glory plant has a lot of buds, but the buds dry up and do not bloom. Kindly suggest. I inititally kept it where the plant gets early morning sunlight and late evening sunlight. Then, I kept it on terrace under full sun (43-45 degree C) Still, no blooms. Just a lot of buds which are dry up and drop. I water it in small quantity, thrice as the heat is too much

Most of my MG seeds have a hard ball blocking their cotyledons. They are 5 days in soil. Inside of that ball is beautiful greenery. Will their seed head fall off on its own or should I consider creative surgery? I just imagine them struggling and fighting to survive…me. Should I try to help them or is this a battle all morning glories fight on their own? Idk.

I rent so I’m limited to my location of sunlight. I planted my MG seeds in starter pre-cut water bottles and then planted them into the ground in front of a cute little wood fence on the edge of my patio area. To my surprise they have taken off! They get a little bit of morning sunlight and a few hours of the afternoon sunlight. I live in South Louisiana where it’s very hot and very humid. Now it’s the beginning of May (2023), afternoon temps in the upper 80’s. The leaves started to look wilted so I started watering them every evening but by the next afternoon the leaves were still wilted although the ground was still damp. I started watering them in the early morning and in the evening and the leaves have stopped wilting, but how do I know if I’m watering them too much? Some of my older leaves have holes in them and also had yellowing around the edges. What is the cause and how do I fix those problems? 🤦🏻‍♀️ TY☺️

Sounds like you have some pests eating your plants. You can try pesticides but if you have pets or grow plants for consumption nearby you can look up natural deterrents. Personally I have a problem with garden slugs, who love damp soil and eat roots in my potted plants, so I started sprinkling used coffee grounds around my jasmine (which prefers acidic soil anyway). If it's caterpillars eating your morning glories, you may have to remove them by hand (or encourage birds to visit, who will happily eat the caterpillars). Soil should be moist but not soggy. If you don't have good drainage, you could possibly be overwatering, but it's hard to say because the amount of water they need will depend on many variables including wind, heat, depth of soil, drainage, etc.

Also do you water them daily or how often? Also when seeding, do you cover the seeds in a bag (greenhouse) or do you just use the the sunlight? Also when in seeds, do you put them in direct sunlight to germinate?

Are morning glory and nilkantha flower same??
@heatherbryant4197
@heatherbryant4197 Жыл бұрын
No, but some varieties look somewhat similar, so I can understand why you might wonder that. Morning glories are in the genus Ipomoea (Ipomoea tricolor, Ipomoea alba, Ipomoea purpura, etc.) and are native to Northern & Central America. Nilkantha flowers are Clitoria ternatea and are native to India. Nilkantha flowers are in the family Fabaceae, and thus are actually more closely related to "sweet peas." Morning glories are in the same family as sweet potatoes.

Yes, morning glory seeds contain the alkaloid d-lysergic acid amide, an entheogenic (psychedelic) compound with comparable yet milder effects than LSD. I suggest you gain a wealth of information on the compound before you ever consider eating it. Do not eat commercial seeds as they are more often than not treated with extremely toxic methyl mercury.

Jimson Weed Also known as Datura or Moonflower, this often fantastic looking weed is packed full of poison that could kill your dog. This harmless looking green weed produces a white flower, and if your dog ingests the plant, he's at risk of the poison quickly taking hold of the body.

Realize these are toxic to pets so do not plant were your dogs or other pets can reach them. I love them but decided not to plant just for this reason they can also become invasive turning to a weed that takes over.
