If I were comissioner, maybe I'd try this: salary on any player who STAYED on their original drafted team is not taxed. Mega luxury tax on all other players. This will incentivize player development/loyalty and reasonable max salaries b/c those players become otherwise untradeable. Super teams thru the draft is good. Super team through trades is bad.

Klay has to decide if he wants to finish with the Dubs. If he does he will have to sign for less than $20M. I don't think he can restructure a deal like in the NFL. They need to stick with the deal until the end of the contract and then take a pay cut when doing their new contract. Aside from that, Steph has endorsements and other deals he can consider, but just about every person in a professional setting rarely takes a paycut willingly. The only time I've seen players take paycuts to keep a team together was in the NFL. The dynastic 49ers of the 80s and 90s had players take paycuts to keep the team together. Either that or Bill Walsh would simply trade a star player if he felt like a player was on the downside of his peak. (see lott, montana, craig, etc)

I’ll take a stab. 1). Negative contract value. Would have to attach an asset just to get rid of it. 2). Everyone always looking for wings (including us). @redpillproductions71873 ай бұрын

Issac is like a Iggy/McGee hybrid, could match up with MPJ, KP, KD, AD Simmons is a 6’10 Draymond type who played with Jimmy before. Just play him with our shooters. Can guard anybody tbh. If I am a new GM who is trying to keep his job, which Mike Dunleavy is btw, then waving CP3 and Klay is probably the easiest logical decision one can make (just stick with the young players and stay under the tax threshold). That being said, I know he used to be a very competitive basketball player, so he might not be devoted to emotions like a like a businessman robot like other GMs in the league and actually go for a big trade and help Steph win another chip. If, by some miracle, somebody read all of this, I have no idea where I am going with this as a Warriors fan. I have no idea what the right decision is. Do I look for the future with Kuminga and podz, or is Steph still have another miracle championship run on his gas tank?
@cracknigr60653 ай бұрын
Steph certainly has, the rest of team not so much though... Wiggins and Dray make way too much money for players of their value. If they wanna bring back Klay you have another person making too much. Without Steph taking a big salary cut, which he absolute will not take, and bringing in another at least high level player we're basically looking at a lottery team. The only way this team will have a playoff spot at the end of the season is by them eating the giant tax and bringing in another star.

What’s the point of moving out of the tax while you have Steph on your roster? I understand the idea of wanting to get out of the repeater but wouldn’t that happen naturally after the core retires?
@LucasX-od8kw3 ай бұрын
Because if you want to have any chance to get players to complement Steph, you have to get below the tax to have the resources to make deals. If Steph had cut the team some slack and signed for "only" 40mill instead of 50 mill, they wouldn't have this problem. OTOH, he did cut them some slack on his first post-rookie contract. So, they are paying him now because they did not pay him earlier. But rules change, and they can't make this work any more without freeing up money to get more costly players who aren't legacy players (like Klay).
@crystalsturdivant2693 ай бұрын
@@LucasX-od8kw that doesn’t answer my question. The repeater tax doesn’t prevent them from signing players. Being a team that operates under the tax is essentially saying we are a losing team and we aren’t trying to win. Why would you want to be a losing team when you have Curry?
