It's feels like it's a real tightrope. It looked like the ANZ was working well for both NZ and Australia then they split. NZ became quite protectionist which doesn't appear to have helped their national team, and Australian league contract negotiations have turned into a farce, with star players just melting away due to the uncertainty. tbirds have lost half their league winning squad and look very unlikely to be able to defend their title, reasons vary but a high player turnover isn't good for fan loyalty.

Would love to see an NFL shared national and local revenue model where all the franchises are equally responsible for marketing and growing the league and salary caps to encourage parity and good competition across the board. The league is only as good as it’s weakest teams. Look at rugby as an example of what not to do where the clubs are all bankrupt and don’t have the interests of the national team at their core.
