I'm a native speaker. I knew there was a difference in simple vs continuous with mean and want, but I'd never really identified what it was. Now I know. It's amazing how much we learn to speak our native language without ever consciously realizing, isn't it?

The real complication lies in the focus on the flawed terminology and an irrelevant Latin-based analysis of English. If one focusses instead on the lexical items (have, be+en, and 'ing' affix), it becomes truly simple.
