Quick, not-so-fun fact: If you're ever by the sea and happen upon what looks like a bit of amber, *don't*, I repeat, *don't* stick it in your pocket. At least in Western Europe there's a good chance that it's not actually amber but phosphorus from allied bombing raids in WW2, which looks a lot like Amber, just that it ignites when in contact with the air. There's been tons of very serious accidents with people's legs and arms being burned to crisp because of that mistake. Take it with you, but somewhere far away from your body

Inferry I'm not sure, phosphorus burns *incredibly* hot, hence the use in incendiary bombs in WW2. As long as you don't close the lid and keep it well away as soon as you see any reaction you should be fine. If you close the lid...well, you just transformed your cracked up Roman candle into a frag grenade.

There is also a huge bunker complex in the Rhein-Erft district near Cologne. This bunker complex houses a nuclear power plant from the Nazi era. This was probably Adolf Hitler's last hiding place. Crates containing parts of a copy of the Amber Room were found buried near a shopping center.

I went to the amber room recreation but they said we can’t take photos of the room because- and I’m quoting our tour guide and Catherine’s palace employee directly “it would potentially disturb the amber- even without flash” so that’s probably why you couldn’t find photos of the roof
@Just.Kidding
@Just.Kidding Жыл бұрын
yeah it's not possible for taking a picture without flash to damage amber, or really do anything at all. photography works, to simplify, by capturing light. if photography would "disturb" the amber, so would looking at it or it just existing.

Interesting video. There's one apparent hole in the preferred theory. Amber burns with a very distinctive perfumed scent. It is like an incense in fact. For that quantity of amber to be reduced to ash, the distinctive aroma should have carried miles, so there ought to be multiple eye... I mean nose, witnesses testifying to such whiff in the air.

I like your sense of humour and your humility, I like your accent and your narration style, I like that you do your homework (research), I like your editing, I like your interesting and varied subjects and I like your editing style. (And keep putting Pachelbel in there!) And about not feeling pressured... don't feel pressure to put up videos at a certain rate either. Just do them in your own pace - seeing a new one in the feed is not an expectation, it is a bonus! (But do reconsider getting a Patreon page! :-) )

I'll keep it up with Johann Pachelbel, and I'll try to keep it up with everything else as well - thank you for your kind words. Zepherus I get the antipatreothy (new word!) too, because I realize that it is counterproductive to what I just said about not allowing yourself to be pressured. I'm just being selfish, really, thinking that a steady income might make good channels stay around longer. (Which probably isn't true in the long run anyway - if you end up only doing this for money and not for the love of it then the quality likely won't remain as good.) So you're right, and good on you for keeping your integrity and not taking the bait! :-) Keep making new videos for as long as _you_ like to make them, and not just to please us fans.

Zepherus I just now realise that golden room I saw in Cathrine's castle was a replica of the amber room.
@johngayder9249

Maybe the “replica” room is the REAL room. How could the original thieves have ever sold it? Maybe they came to know people in power who could pronounce the creation of the “replica” using government funding. They would thereby get paid for essentially selling the original back into public view as a “copy.”

What always perplexed me about the Amber Room is that the curators of the Palace had so much difficulty in removing the Amber from the walls - it crumbled, remember? One would assume that this crew had at least a rudimentary understanding of what that task required and they were stumped. Yet, in march the Nazis and, even if the removal was overseen by Nazi 'experts' (inasmuch that one who subscribed to that particular brand of animalism is the antithesis of being educated making 'expert' a dubious attribution) they were able to remove the panels, relatively intact - so much so the room was reconstructed elsewhere. Those two, at least on the surface, appear to contradict each other.

+Zepherus: you may have already heard this, but in 1993, one of the little italian mosaic panels from the Amber Room (these were the things in the amber "picture frames" one can see in photos of the room) was found by police in the home of one of the german soldiers tasked with crating the original. i don't know much else, but i'm sure you could find out more, if you care to. cheers!

Zepherus I'd love you, snepai. I've never really ever found a concrete reason when researching it myself (granted I never looked too super hard), as to why Russia has felt the need to keep control of Konigsberg, and why they took it the way they did in the first place. All I know is that there was a massive exodus of the indigenous German inhabitants and now it's fairly sparsely populated with Russian migrants.
@Zepherus

Zepherus That's true, but from what I understand Konigsberg is mostly a ghost town nowadays, with quite a bit of the city only inhabited to the extent required to occupy tourists. I don't know of any harbor work going on there, though to be fair, wtf do I know. You're the dood, by the way, found your channel when you had around 20,000 subs, and I've been considering doing something similar on KZbin for a while (covering obscure historical happenings that I think a lot of people would find interesting). Keep up the good work. snepai.

St. Petersburg didn't freeze during Winter lol I personally believe it's an Insult to the Germans (or Prussian) because it's their homeland and how ironic that they unifies German but couldn't even hold to their home territory. Also Sambia has been always the cause of the conflict (WWI and WWII) because the Germans require land access to the territory, always declaring war to Poland to gain access to Konigsberg, thus Russia keep it to stop the Germans Casus Belli.
